need quick advice on touching up my 5x5 routine...

I was planning on doing needsize's ab routine. Today was my first time doing it with a decent weight and it kept hurting in my back, getting worse each set. So it seems the only ab excercise that isn't a problem for me is cable crunches. What kind of routine should I do using those?

I was thinking maybe 5x10 -or- 2x10 straight, 2x10 to the left, 2x10 to the right?


On a related note, on monday I did back/tri and it was my first time deadlifting with a decent weight. The next day my abs were sore. This doesn't mean I'm doing em wrong, right? :p


I'm assuming both are due to weak abs?

Why yes it's cause of weak abs; don't worry about your deadlifts. And your first suggestion for your ab routine sounds great!!!

My back would hurt at first when doing abs as well, bro. After you strengthen them and your lower back, try it again and you shouldn't feel any lower back pain. I stayed away from them for a few months and just did crunches and finally decided to try it again and now that's all I do.
