tell me about life in Costa Rica
Do you like it there?
Have you been to the U.S.?

Hi ^_^

I was actually born and raised in the US (CT specifically), was in High School in California and New Jersey, been to NY, PA, RI, FL, OR, DC and all states from FL to CA (dad loved road trips :))

Life in Costa Rica is nice, I have a salary that is twice the normal pay in the country so I do pretty well and it's an easy job, if you speak english you pretty much have a good salary assured since there are MANY callcenters here because we talk better than indians :lmao: I have my car, nice things, etc BUT nice stuff are getting harder and harder to get they are so FREAKING expensive... like a US normal PC will be $400 there and $900 here, an 01 Dodge Ram will be $6000 there and $25000 here  so comfortable life is a bit more difficult and it's getting a bit insecure..... like mugs, house break ins, car robbery, etc, I'm pretty lucky cuz I live in a "nice" area where mostly foreign US and europeans live so you can leave ur car without being scared, leave the door open, hell my mom has a 52" hdtv and no protection at all so we are "secure" but who knows for how long... :worried: personally I wanna go back to the states, I liked it better, safer, more comfortable....

If you come here with no debts and enought to retire you can buy some property and live out in the beach or moutains (where I live) and you will be VERY hapy though.... city life is the sucky life :)

We have good food and beer though:supercool

It's nice... but I miss the US

I was actually wondering what I need to get my stuff together and go back, I have never in my life paid taxes and not sure if while living in CR I have any debt/tax I had to declare, that kinda worries me...

Moved here when I was seven and then come and go, about 2 years (14-16) adult age have only been there on vacations, never had a job or anything there... is there anyway to check my credit to make sure no weirdo hijacked my SSN?

Digi might need to correct me, but I believe you only have to declare if you are being paid out of the US in US dollars - and even then there's something like an $80,000+ exemption.

Great ^_^ my salaries here rarely go above $1000 a month.... very few times it's more than that ($500 is an average salary) so I guess I'm "safe"

wait. are you saying you live off of $1000 a month and $500 a month is average salary?

Yes that's right.... and nope living cost is not cheap.....

I dont know shit about real estate in US can someone tell me something about a listing like this...

http://www.lee-county-homes.com/Lis...wCompact=False&Preview=False&Bb=CL&Cc=3516304

I know the area has quite a lot of foreclosure... seems crime and all isn't that bad in the zone, I dont have kids so don care about schools.... any thoughts... that area is chepa as hell.... may be for a reason.... thoughts?

A US citizen owes taxes on all income, just mostly only needs to be paid when it hits US shores.

You should go back and file all open years as you do get the exemption mentioned above. If you are paying CR taxes, you may even get those as tax credits and can build a foreign tax loss that may come in handy some day.

Point being, all US citizens should file tax returns so you don't get stranded when you do want to come home.
