Warning,
Rant is ON
I'm getting certified as a physical trainer at my school's gym this weekend. I did the training, and I'll take a test in the next 2 weeks. I and one other person are actually half way big--him being really good size. Out of the 10 or so people, 7 of the group are complete idiots. I mean really, really stupid. They don't know shit about weight lifting, making a routine, or basically anything a personal trainer should know. The bad thing is, some of these people already work in the gym. These type of people give personal trainers bad names.
Today we were asked to make a routine for an intermediate lifter that is 165lbs at 8%bf and the guy wanted to put on MASS. This was just a situation. They were like "lets do in this order: bench, barbell curls, isolation curls, cable curls, lunges, cable rows, calf raises, and umm?...maybe some kind of smith machine squat? I don't know. Maybe we should leave out the squats? Oh, yea, don't forget about all of the cardio he needs to be doing."
I absolutely went NUTS!!!! First they didn't want to squats because that is an "advanced movement and it might be dangerous". Then they say that smith machine squats are best!! AAAAHHHHH. And then they put all of the 8 different types of bicep curls in before big muscles such as the quads or hammies. And finally, they want to run this little dude's ass off who is already at 8% and who wants to put weight on! MAN, DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SENSE LEFT???????
