My son left his stuffed animal at the cottage...

A lot of it has to do with the fact that it has their scent on it and they have grown accumstomed to the feel - this soothes them.

None of mine ever really had things like that. They would occasionally latch onto this doll or that stuffed animal or like a particular character pillow, but they never really had ONE "comfort object."

My oldest sucked her pacifier till I took it at 2. I think it was a mistake on my part to take it from her that young as she would then constantly put all sorts of things into her mouth. I should have just let her suck on it at night or naptime when she needed to soothe herself. My younger three all sucked different fingers. By the age of two though I broke them of sucking them fingers during the day or out in public. It just became a habit. Once they were broken of the habit of sucking fingers in public and during the day, I broke them of sucking at night by placing a sock on their hand so they couldn't get their fingers into their mouths. I know they would still suck for a little ways after that at night, but eventually gave that up too.

I only broke them of the sucking stuff because the dentist I went to and all that I had read said that it would impede proper development of their teeth. Other than that, I let them be kids.

Now my es bitchster-in-law had a kid that would suck his thumb and hold his blankey to his face till nearly TEN.

I AM NOT KIDDING.
Yeah my little girl had her pacie for too long. I had my youngest when she was only 18 months old, so I could not take the pacie or the bottle away from her as soon as I had him.I waited until she was about 2-2 1/2 and then I took it away. I often wonder if I should have allowed her to have it until she was ready to give it up. She like yours still at almost 4 sticks everything in her damn mouth.
Lol, I know it has something to do with scent on the blankies..My oldest would flip out if he did not have his blankie when he was tot..I could barely get it in the washer without hin having a fit. I bought like 4 other similar blankies and he would not even touch them.He would literally sit on the floor in the washroom and ask every 2 or so minutes if it were done yet..Hahaha. Remembering it all and looking at him right now is funny..He is almost 9 and still has the blanket..Although he is not as attached now because he is older.I remember before we got our ac the house was hot as hell in the summer and he would be in his tot bed all wrapped up in his blankie. Twin size fleece blanket..Poor kid would get so damn sweaty but he would not go without it...My youngest one is the same.He is 2 right now, and his blankie seems to be his lifeline. He always has it with him..Kids are so damn cute, but they grow too fast

my son will be 21 months old tomorrow. . .twice a week we do the same thing. . .out to the backyard and play for a while and before we go back in we walk over to the set of rings hanging from the swingset. . .i grab him by the waist and lift him, he grabs the rings and then hangs for as long as he can. . .i don't even have to tell him anymore, he just does it. . .little sum-bitch is up to one full minute. . .indoctrination. . .toughness is learned behavior. . .

I remember how proud my girls were that they could do the hand over hand to get from one end of the swing set to the next - most BOYS couldn't do it. Then they would have push-up contests, rebels like their mother in a big hurry to prove that they were as strong as the boys.

I can't wait till we are together again. :) We are going to have SO MUCH FUN tearing up the gym. Maybe this old girl will get her spark back.

I swear the kids teach us more than we never even thought we didn't know.

as I remember it - he was in a tree too...

My favorite remote toy boat also exploded crossing a lake once too (another one of my brothers IEDs), that made me sad. :(

...Jesus. I've got to drive for four hours (one way) to pick him up so he can be happy. The things that you're willing to do for your kids.

You shouldnt. Just tell him to shut up.
