Just spent a week there, it was fun but the city is kind of gross. I was there with my girlfriend so I didn't get a chance to do some of the things I wanted to do (smoke a big fattie and go check out hookers in the red light lol).
Not much to do besides ride bikes around, check out some museums and the food absolutely sucked everywhere. Our best meals were from takeout places which tells you a lot. Definitely expensive too. Getting around on public transit was quick and easy though, and the trains were great.
It rained every god damned day, which was also annoying. I don't know how those people do it with rain 300 days a year, I would slit my wrists. We had decent weather two days out of eight but it still rained on those days for an hour or two.
We rode to the beach one day about 25km away (Zandvoort), very pretty and cool that they have lounges right on the sand where you can have a drink and just lie around for the afternoon.
We went to Brussels for a day - gorgeous city and very cool to see all of the old buildings and the seat of the EU parliament. And let me tell you the women in Belgium are ridiculously hot - it's probably like DC with all the young Eurohotties working for the government. I had neck strain when I left.
And yes, we did walk through the red light. Kind of trashy but there were some very hawt hookers in the windows. Guys just walk up, flash some cash and go get a "suck and fuck" for 50 euro - apparently they take care of business in 15 minutes. And they have fatties and trannies in certain areas if you're into that. Didn't hit a "coffeeshop" but they were everywhere, sometimes right next to each other. It reeked like weed most places. Very cool attitude from most people, laid back and chill.
Nice thing was people speak English there as well so I didn't have to struggle through Dutch.
