My response to HanzNZ's constant USA bashing

Why are you sp opposed to removing Saddam from power? This is a leader that marched his troops into a neighboring country a decade ago. He kills his own people in mass and will do nothing but continue to be a source of trouble in an already fucked up part of the world.

I'll admit that I have at times been critical of our leaders for their handling of this situation. However, as an American I have the right to be critical since I am being asked to make sacrifices for this war. These are my friends and neighbors being asked to fight. This can also mean retaliation attacks in my homeland. Not to mention my tax money funding all of this.

However, what the hell does it matter to you folks in New Zealand? We're removing a nuisance to the world. I hope you can at least see that much. Your gripes equate to complaining about someone offering to dispose of your garbage for free.

Perhaps we should have left Saddam alone in the early 90's. I wonder what would have happened to the Mid-East then. He would likely have taken over Saudi Arabia, Iran, and any other country in the region. These fears were why all of the Arab nations sided with the USA back then.

You people from countries that aren't involved in this have no room to be critical. One day some dictator may walk in and take over your country. Will you be upset when we send our men to bail your ass out?

It is so typical of people who disagree with the USA to be called American bashers. I am entitled to disagree with American policy. Considering how much Americans preach about free speech you sure hate it when it doesn't work in your favour.

Just because people don't like what the USA is doing doesn't automatically mean we love Saddam. He marched into a neighbouring country using an army that was built up by Western arms and American money.

Saddam is not the greatest threat to the middle east anymore. 1991 fixed that. It is US politicians and the US media which is inventing this "fact". The greatest trouble maker in the Middle East is Israel and its master the USA. Fine you may not agree with that opinion. But many people believe this to be so. That is called free thinking. If our observations conclude that the USA's policies are a source of problems then we are indeed American bashers. We don't have to concur that the USA is all wonderful.

Are you saying that other people have no right to have an opinion about this? Only Americans are entitled to opinions about the rest of the world? Only Americans are entitled to cast countless dispursions against other countries as they constantly do on this very discussion board. Considering the USA interferes in every corner of the world then I think it is somewhat hypocritical to imply that others are not allowed to have opinions about events outside their borders. It is also an example of American parochialism to think that what goes on outside one's own border is irrelevant.

This board is FULL of Americans putting forward their views. I am quite clearly outnumbered when I post. Plenty of people take the opportunity to attack what I have to say. In fact many go further and attack me as a person. I continue to post anyway because when Americans say things that are of dubious credibility I don't see why I should sit back and endorse it with my silence. This is an international site. It is not the sole preserve of the USA or the american media which basically perpetuates the perceptions that americans choose to have about themselves and their country. For challenging those perceptions I do not appologise.

However, what the hell does it matter to you folks in New Zealand? We're removing a nuisance to the world. I hope you can at least see that much. Your gripes equate to complaining about someone offering to dispose of your garbage for free.

We haven't asked you to do this. Quite the opposite. We beg you not to. Please DON'T "save" us.

Considering Iraq was weaker than these countries in the 1990s this seems unlikely.

You people from countries that aren't involved in this have no room to be critical. One day some dictator may walk in and take over your country. Will you be upset when we send our men to bail your ass out?

I have already responded to this arrogant assertion in another thread.

You can have your opinions on the rest of these matters but Iraq had the 4th largest army in the world when he invaded Kuwait. Saudi Arabia and any other Arab nation was his for the taking.

I think we all give to much credence to those that will always oppose US policies. We are the big dog and it goes with the territory. Jealousy and envy are usually at work. When push comes to shove, try to find an American that would prefer living in another country and dealing with their policies. Even the anti-war faggots wouldn't leave the dear USA.

There are lots of Americans living overseas. There are heaps here. My God mother is from Ohio. My best friend is from San Francisco. You can't walk down the street without tripping over Americans here. And they're quite welcome here too.

I agree. But you said in the mid 1990s. In the first Gulf war, unlike now the US enjoyed much international support. The whole Gulf War was about the US destroying an Iraqi military it had built up to fight the USA's other enemy Iran. US policy in the Middle East went into panic mode when these two countries made peace with eachother, despite the USA's best attempts to keep them fighting.
