My New Rack

No, I haven't ordered implants yet. I do have a shiny, new Power Rack, though. It also has dipping bars that I neglected to attach for the shots. They're rated upto 400 pounds so they'll see me for a while yet.

The bars are rated to 1500 pounds which is a few months off for me yet, too.

At the top, those odd antennae are for pullups. A neat idea offering everything except a really close grip option.

The whole thing is held together with reinforcing plates and 40 bolts.

The bench is about an inch too high for my tastes and I have trouble getting my feet flat on the ground while flat benching. I'll work something out. The bench also turns into a full decline since the seat can be tilted at the front. There's also an extra attachment at the front with another two foam rollers for me to hook my feet into. If I could just lower the thing by an inch it'd be pretty much perfect.

I really must sweep the floor.

nice rack. I got the same from powertech but additionally I have the cable thing. for the pullups u could place a round piece of wood on top of the antennaes - works perfect for me. the dipping bars are a little bit unstable.

are you going to post pictures once you get the implants too?

I also got some sturdier collars. They're 1Kg between them so, with the spring collars, I have the normal weights plus options of an extra 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5Kg. Cheaper than buying micro-weights and they can double as collars.

Including the collars, I can go to 266.5Kg (586 lb).

It had crossed my mind to slap a piece of wood across if I felt the need.

The dipping bars are a bit wobbly. I thought maybe stuffing some card or paper down might help but haven't tried it yet.

I should also get some planks to throw across the bars so I can do reverse hypers.

The rack was just over £300 the bench just under £120. Altogether, including the weights, rubber mats and now redundant squat stand, I've spent just under £900 ($1700).

Since gym membership was costing me £220 per year and travel was costing £6 per week in petrol, £300 per year, the whole setup will have paid for itself within two years. There's also the aspect of saving 40 minutes in travel to the gym and back per visit and never having to wait for equipment nor hunt for plates, not to mention being able to take a workout whenever I feel like it.

Nice looking piece of equipment – it looks sturdier than I thought it would be. It’ll be nice to be able to lift with wild abandon now knowing you can dump the bar at anytime.

I myself just picked up a used pullup station from a starving college student for $25, one of the free standing type. It’s a bit worn but solid but should do the job.

Nice rack mate.

How do you find working out at home, got a lot of self motivation?

I bought a bench about 3 years ago and then threw the head up and joined the gym, if i knew i could workout at home i would, my gyms pretty shit

That looks the business though...

lollerskates.

That's the exact same rack my gym uses. Very sturdy as we all abuse it and use it for heavy squats and such!

It's very sturdy. I spent a long time tightening the bolts and decided to stop when I realised that I was distorting the metal. I'm not looking forward to having to dismantle it any time soon. Assembly was very straight forward.

nice rack. :D

btw - I was looking over the attachments that came with my smith machine. It appears that it is also a power rack. yay! Lots of holes on the front to stick pegs in for squating/benching. duh. :nerd:

anyway, congratulations on your new rack. :)

Oh hey, right, forgot one thing.

How good is the bench? You may want to reconsider if you were planning on doing really heavy bench pressing on that. Those incline/decline/flat benches never made me feel safe.

Cheers.

I bought a bar, some weights and a squat stand initially, thinking that it'd be convenient to have some kit at home. I reckoned that it'd also serve on the odd day when I wasn't going to use a bench and I'd save myself a gym visit.

I haven't been to the gym since then so I decided that I was comfortable with home workouts so ordered the rack and bench. The bench is plenty sturdy enough just a shade too tall. It could also do with more stops to give me a few more angles of incline.

There has been the odd day when the heat wave has interfered with my workout since the stable is just out in the open air. I'll also be suffering in the dead of winter with sub-zero plates, I guess. We'll see.

I'm not strong enough to do really heavy benching. I'm at and around the three plates stage and I've no concerns with it for now.

It feels rock solid when I bounce up and down on it with my own weight. I took it to 125Kg the other day and had no worries.

Yep. I've mentioned it before, but I have a PowerTec rack and am quite happy with it. I'm not looking forward to dismantling the thing either, which I'll probably have to do in about a year to move for grad school. On the positive side, I'm a lot stronger than when I bought it, so hopefully those bolts won't give me much trouble. :p

Enjoy the new rack/bench and working out at home!

Does the coop have heating/AC?

The stable is completely open to the elements except for having a roof, walls and a door. The two 'windows' are just holes in the wooden walls with some wire mesh. It does have lighting which is cool. I might have to take a paraffin heater out in winter (that's kerosene to you guys).

I think SS called it a coop since I mentioned in another thread that we had used the stable as temporary accomodation for some chickens.

NICE dipping bars......for some reason unknown to me, I've always made the best progress and strapped on the most weight on the more old-school style bars like yours that turn inwards.

Yeah I got the dipping bars for my Vulcan rack but I'm not sure I like them. I thought the infinite positions would be to my liking - I like them on the narrow side - but it was too narrow at the bottom for hanging plates.

I'll have to mess around with some new setups, like maybe using dumbells or something.

Blut - nice rack! Almost as nice as TSO's!

bizzarely that was my first thought when I read this post.

but it is a lovely looking bit of kit, looks sturdy enough to drop some serious weight on

nice and shiny.. cant weight till its all scracthed up and looking like a real power rack!!

How low do the pin holes go on the powertec rack? i am looking at ordering one. I would like to have pins low enough to do floor presses with the bars in place for safety.

The bottom holes are about 16" from the ground. With the safety bars there, the bar is at a height such that, when I grip it, my elbows are about an inch off the ground.

This means that you couldn't floor press inside the rack but could use the front for a safe lift-off. From experience, I know that with a plate on each end and resting on the floor, the bar is high enough off the floor that I'm in no danger of being crushed around the neck so that'd would be fine for me. Your requirements may vary.

thanks for the response. I like the dips handle picture also. i think i'm sold on this rack. The gym i'm currently using is eliminating a sports only training area with basketball court and sprint area. Then they are replacing it with ballroom dancing...wtf? So, i'm looking hard into the home gym right now.

I have this exact same rack and i like it more than i thought i was going too. I never bought a bench for it because i don't have the money at the time, so i still go to the gym. However i do floor presses all the time on it and you don't have too worry about dropping weight on yourself. If you start failing turn your head and drop the bar and just make sure your elbows are already on the ground.
