I completely empathize about the driving! That's actually why I said what I did. I cannot drive either, I've never had a driver's license. Not being able to take my husband somewhere if there were an emergency, since we do go on camping vacations, has been a major fear of my husband and mine.
I also have a depth perception problem, too, it's not something you can "medically" diagnose. It's tied into my dyscalculia. There's nothing wrong with my eyes, but I can't interpret the information correctly, I can't judge distance and rate of speed (also have major problems with directions). Apparently the part of the brain that is responsible for all the math stuff also has to do with spacial relationships. I figure I'd be a bigger danger on the road than not.
Learn the number of a regional taxi company and always keep $40 in cash on you, that should get you to most ERs.
I hope your husband's recovery is swift.

Why wouldn't she call an ambulance?
wtf? how often does a trip to the ER actually require an ambulance?
why incur the added cost when she could just drive him there/take a cab?
40 bucks is better than paying 675 bucks for an ambulance when you don't really need one.

People that can't afford their medical bills aren't gonna pay them anyways. So what's another added expense on something that's not gonna get paid anyways.
