in the last 24 hours cingular FINALLY got cell phone reception working again in southern louisana (kinda-sorta, anyway).

after numerous calls checking on friends in the nawlinz area; i am told that all may not be lost; that the area where my almost renovated, historic side hall, double parlor victorian home is high ground and prolly was not flooded. (that explains why the flood insurance was so cheap perhaps?)

my present home in the 'burbs was untouched also.

i am told by some of the police i know that residents might be allowed back in in about 2 weeks.

the house is a fortress-- cypress shutters latched from the inside covering the floor to ceiling windows, burgular bar screen doors....as long as nobody sets it on fire it'll survive....it's been there since the 1880's.
