my first venture into the real world

Sub-Zero

High End Bro
Platinum
so i wrote a resume for the first time ever, and thought i twas really awsome.

then i went to the career center and there was this pretty hot girl in there. iit turns out she was the one who was gunna critique my resume for the next 45 minutes.

she made great eye contact. they were blue. i didnt look down once (if ya know what im sayin). i was real proud of myself.

but for the serious part:
my resume sucks, nothing i did in highschool matters, and i have zero qualifications.

i got made fun of for "independent research in nutrition" on my resume. lolol!

why cant i put "currently posting at a bodybuilding steroid mega site, and participating in the omega project" as my qualifications !!

LOL, welcome to the suck bro. You only get hired if you have experience. But how do you get experience if you don't get hired?

Fucking catch 22.

Cheers,
Scotsman

I hope you slapped that bitch!

:)

path of champions

of course i had a business at that time, so it didn't matter

what type of job are you looking for? tailor your resume for that tpe of job. Get a resume book to lookat for ideas, may be one on the web. Last time I had one done professionally, it was $200 dollars. Well worth the investment.

The resume gets you the 30 seconds of attention to get put in the "maybe" file or file 13, it needs to be well written, concise, and easy to follow....

post it up bro. lots of professionals in here that could help for free.
thanks bro thats awsome. when i fix all the ideas she said to address ill post it up in this thread (both the old and revised one) for some feedback

Aren't you going to College?

and tell us what type of work your looking for too....

yeah, but im looking for the summer

Nice.

No matter what you do. You have to stay in school.

utilize your pops or some connection to land that first job. if you have no credentials and not an ounce of experience, it's gonna be tough.

of course unless you do an unpaid internship, then you might have a shot.

this is my resume as it stands.... but she said i have to get rid of most of the highschool shit, put my shitty gpa up there and just revamp a lot of stuff

agreed. i coudlnt care less about money right now (im very fortunate that my parents are able to still support me), and am more focused on finding experience

Get a job that is fun where you can meet some chicks.

Don't worry about getting experiance. Enjoy having a fun time.

You will be jacked by summer, so maybe a pool??

TOO LONG! cut half the bs out, it has to be more conscise ( you got 30 seconds! it has to get to the point)
change schooling to "education":
take about 2-3 of those out, proficient in Excell, Power yada yada
when something is under the topic, it generally means that you completed it, so you don't need to say that, if your in the process you may say that, otherwise just put the degree or certification.
(FYI- unless you have over a 3.0, don't use your GPA)

on the volunteer work, if you want to put that, cut it to the 3 best, they'll get the idea....

try again and post the new draft... 30 seconds Bro, keep it short, to the point

word, alot of that stuff is what the girl i met with today said. im gunna redo it over the weekend, and go in on monday if i have time

*extensive knowledge of anatomy through disection ( cow, pig, AAP, and others)

cut that line down to something like that, forget wat the prof said, if you weren't first, it doesn't help imo.....

you get the idea....

the front should be your 8x10 headshot and the back should be your resume! that's where you're fucking up bro.

back when i was 19-20. getting a job was ROUGH!!!! same old excuses "you don't have enough experience" and i'd always bring up the point that was already mentioned. "how am i suppose to obtain experience, if no one is willing to let me?" definaltely catch 22 bs! i remember applying at a furniture store and the guy that interviewed me started it off with...
him: when was the last time you've used drugs?
me: i can honestly say i've never used drugs.
him: so a week,2 weeks, a month???
me: are you talking about weed???
him: yes.
me: never been high before.
him: do you get random drug tests appointed by the court system.
i almost jumped over the fucking oak table and choked that mother fucker out!!!

Seriously, if this is your first job.

Just get something fun and easy. Learning to have a job in this environment is a lot easier.

Amusement park
gym
bar
store in the mall
etc

Sub, save your energy and just go get a job through connections.

Like CW says, it's tough to get work w/out credetials.
You're a strong dude, any construction co will hire on the spot. Good money too

Use your school resources. I got PAID internships through my college's academic career services. Tons of employers are looking for interns to abuse for a summer to help with special projects and cover vacations.

You will definitely want to put it in a "standard" format. Employers hate hunting around for the info they are interested in. If they gotta search they are going to pitch it.

Background: A few sentences describing your skill sets, goals, & experience.

Work Experience: List paid positions in order of most recent giving employment dates title and job responsibilities

Education: College - Major, GPA (expected graduation or graduation date)
Technical School or any specialized courses or training
High School - GPA

Honors/Achievements: Usually related to school and promotions during previous employment or civic duty awards

Volunteer Work: Top 3

References: Available Upon request or you could provide 3 professional referenes of employed individuals (not friends - business men, lawyers, doctors, professors, etc)

Limit it to 1 page (unless you have an extensive & outstanding background, 2 with your tailored cover letter for each position)

get hooked up at fitness first so we can eat buttons in the spinning room after hours this summer

Dude if I had to check and edit all my posts I wouldn't have time for cat pics!

Good to keep your priorities straight.

I am having Subz send me a copy of his resume.

I may hire him to edit all my posts if his references check out.

Aside from the internship programs try talking directly to some of your profs. Especially in the classes you enjoy the most. Even if they don't have something for you maybe they know someone else in the department who does.

I did this and actually got published when I was 19, talk about a heavyweight punch on a resume.

You should start bouncing....good way to meet chicks and run shit(bar/club scene).

just don't do it forever or else you'll get stuck in that lifestyle. maybe 1-2 nights a week
