My doctor prescribed Glucophage (metformin)

Glucose tolerance test showed I have hyperinsulinism.

Apparently hence my stubborn fat waist.

Doc says this drug should do wonders for my waistline, presuming I keep my diet in check.

Anything I should know about Glucophage(metformin)?

I read of a very rare but serious adverse effect-lactic acidosis, having to do with kidneys.

Does this mean I should not use it with creatine(5g a day)?
(I`d hate to quit creatine,it gives me nice strength gains when I cycle it)

Thanks!!!!!

The eating part if very important, obviously. I know 2 people on Metformin who haven't lost a pound but they don't keep a strict diet in the slightest.

Some complain that Merformin/Metforal upsets their stomach so much they had to quit it. I haven't tried it yet so I wouldn't know.

creatine throws off your kidney values but it doesn't mean its bad. the half life is so long with creatine that doctors get confused when they look at your BUN and see a bad number. its really up in the air if creatine really does mess with your kidney's, just depends on who you ask.

Blood work is the only real way to tell.

^^^ problem is creatine manipulates 2 numbers. creatinine and BUN. and its half life is long, i've read it will still show up in a blood test months after taking.. EDIT: I mean the DETECTION time is long, not half life lol

a doctor might ask a patient if he has taken creatine lately and the patient will say no.. but they took it a month or two ago. or a doctor won't even ask, many of them have no clue what creatine is or what it does

I didn't know creatine's half life was that long. I have creatinine right at the top of the range all the time thanks to celebrex a few years ago. So I never touch creatine or anything containing it.

actually i'm mistaken .. the half life is only 3 hours lol..

but the DETECTION time is months where it would show up in blood tests i think i remember reading.. i could be wrong though.. i remember running bloods and my BUN and creatinine were both high so i did some digging.. but that was a couple years back when i used to run creatine so the link was there.

that would be cool if the half life was months though.. maybe in another 50 years they will come up with something like that. would be very convienient lol
