he said he used it with creatine post workout but after searching for answers i have read that its best for pre workout? i understand that it helps w/glucose transport which i thought was more crucial post workout rather pre,,,can someone help me

There is no need to take it prior to your workout. I use it while bulking and the early stages of cutting for PW and from what I can tell, I think it works great. I know of many people that continue to use while cutting, but I feel it unnecessary to consume that many simple carbs in the deeper stages of cutting, I switch over to 1/2C oats with splenda and cinn and dont notice any difference.

People add dextrose to their post workout protein shake in order to cause an insulin spike which is supposed to help replenish glycogen lost during the workout as well has help drive amino acids and creatine into the muscle.

I believe there are some studies to back this up. If I remember right the suggested dose is 75grams of dextrose added to 40-50 grams of whey protein . The protein drink should not contain fat because this slows down absorption.

After my workout, I kind of following this practice except I only add about 1/2 the dextrose and I also add glutamine peptides (gplenish) to the drink.

I think there was some debate on whether 75grams of dextrose was needed to cause the insulin spike. Since protein by itself can cause a insulin spike.

But I didn't really follow the discussion.

don't go over board w/ this stuff. It makes some people fat.

You'd be better off bagging it up and selling it as cocaine...you could then use that money to buy some AAS and red meat.

Your feelings are right on. You don't really need high GI carbs post-workout...not as much as people would have you think at least. Exercise itself facilitates movement of glucose and other nutrients into the cell, even though insulin levels drop. So your body is ready to take in all the nutrients you want to give it, without the insulin. After exercise, your insulin levels are rising anyways.

Protein alone has been shown to increase anabolism post-workout, extra carbs don't make that much of a difference (if at all).

I realize that most are going after the low glycemic, fast increase in sugar and insulin to drive the nutrients in, however, this, I feel is not good when trying to tighten up. If you are by chance insulin resistant, or going for the low carb approach, then after this intake of dextrose your insulin levels will be high for hours and consequently make us fat.
