Muscle spasms.

from zero

New member
Anyone get them? The past week or so, I've been getting them CONSTANTLY. My left forearm will get it all the time. It was spasming literally every 5 seconds before I fell asleep last night. My abs have been getting it too.

Any possible reason? It's becoming quite the annoyance.

One explanation for a muscle cramp or spasm could be extensive damage to the muscle that causes Ca 2+ leakage, in turn, causing an involuntary contraction.

Interesting. But I don't see how I could have done that to my forearm OR abs. Hm ...

If it's not related to your actual workout, spasms can be caused by a number of things:

Dehydration
Pregnancy
Hypothyroidism
Depleted magnesium or calcium stores or other metabolic
Abnormalities
Alcoholism
Kidney failure leading to uremia
Medications

I was getting bad back spasms for about a week several months ago. I added a couple of bananas to my diet and muscle relaxers helped me sleep through the night. After a day or so it started to subside very quickly. I take a multivitamin too so for some reason, I needed even more potassium (I guess).

Craving wierd, unusual foods? Like, chocolate dipped pickles?

:D

have to add that dehydration is usually the cause of my mini-cramps. Once I chug a bunch of water or Powerade, I'm fine.
