Depends on what kind of reporting you do and where you're located.


In California, starting salary is $72,000 per year (but they're getting about 6% raises over the next two years) for a person reporting in court. On top of the salary, you get $7 per page of transcript (double typed).

If it helps at all, the court reporter who worked the O.J. Simpson trial made over a million dollars!

I would think that you would have not problem earning an ABSOLUTE MINIMUM of $50,000 in Colorado. I suspect Colorado's wages are less than California.

I'm telling you, I'm kicking myself in the ass for not doing this years and years ago. The more I get into it, the more confident I am that I've picked a career that suits me better than public accounting.

I have the same job as MP5. I hate it also! I almost got fired because I was eating tuna at my desk (like I have been for the last 2 yrs) and my manager argued with me telling me that the smell was offensive, and I have to eat it in the breakroom.. I told her off! I can't wait to quit!
