What is the origin of the practice of setting aside a day to honor mother's?
The Encyclopedia Britannica says: "A festival drived from the custom of mother worship in ancient Greece. Formal mother worship, with ceremonies to Cybele, or Rhea, the Great Mother of the Gods, were performed on the Ides of March throughout Asia Minor."-(1959), Vol.15, p.849.
Today many are unaware of the initial origins of many celebrated holidays, or do not see the signifigance today since these holidays originated so long ago. However, God was around during the originating of these customs and is very aware of their implications. Regardless of how benign or harmless a celebration may appear, if we are sincere as Christian's, we must consider God's view of such celebrations. Surely we would not want to partake in celebrations that venerate false gods.
If we wish to praise or honor our mother's, surely we can do that anytime without violating God's principles.
