Morman's are pretty far out. Any on here?

Reading a book by John Krakauer called Under the banner of Heaven.

Did you know that the Morman's believe that they are the choosen few who get to go to heaven? The rest of us 'Gentiles' are all goners?

Did you know that Joseph Smith found his religion based on golden tablets that he was led to by an angel called Moroni? The Golden plates werent written in a language he could read so Josephy and to use "seeing stones" to try and tranlate. He got about 200 pages done and let his buddy borrow the manuscripts. His buddies wife thought they were nuts and destroyed the first draft of the Book of Mormon.

Did you know that there is another later book from Joseph Smith called the doctrine of covenants that has hundredes of revelations that J.S. were told to Joseph directly by the mouth of God. Including the ideas behind plural marriage?

Did you know all Mormon men ware magic underpants and shirts?

Did you know that it is against the morman religion to do any drugs, drink any strong drinks including anything with caffeen.

That is really only the tip of the tit so to speak. :)

I know all of that. Don't agree with any of it. I'm a protestant Christian and a LDS lover. I know a few families.

They make the greatest neighbors in the world. They are very kind hearted, would give you the shirt off their back, the ones I know have an amazing work ethic, and I would totally let my kiddos hang out with theirs.

All that being said, yeah, if I think about it too hard their beliefs do trip me out too though. I just try to take them for what they are worth.

I've known 2 mormons. I work with one now and is an amazing person. I knew a guy when I was maybe 20 that was going on his mission and again an incredible individual.

I suppose all religion is really wacky. But maybe due to its being such a new religion it seems especially crazy and maybe even dangerous. The fundementalist in Utah particularly. The leaders of those sects all talk to god and belive they are the "one brave and strong" who will lead the mormons back into heaven in the end times. Anytime one person 'thinks' god speaks through them they are pretty dangerous.

Oh hey, off topic but not really: beautiful baby! What a doll.

Yes, I know. In my dealings with the LDS folks I know, I seriously do not even thing about their religion. I like to live in oblivion to the reason they bring me a yummy casserole or offer to mow my yard or whatever. LOL! They know I don't want to join their religion and it's cool they just figure they will kill me with kindness in the meantime. It's fine w/ me! HA! Good folks.

I live in their mecca. The details of the religion are pretty odd, but having grown up catholic, I really can't say shit. My Nana prays to St. fuggin' Anthony when she can't find her keys, so... yeah.

As far as living a clean life for others the LDS is really one of the best out there. They just have a lot of weird shit they believe in.

Yeah, but since the majority of our country believs in a zombie that some virgin gave birth to, their little tidbits aren't that big of a stretch.

Agreed, I think its just the relative newness of it that shocks. Kinda like Hubbard. Too new to be true. But let me drink some of that blood of our God.

Actually the mormons believe in all the bible, just the book of mormon updates it.

lestat is a mormon
and yeah i've read that book
joe smith=scam artist
lol at peeping stones

st anthony is more believable than goddamn peeping stones.
joe smith and b.young should've been lynched

i love that book man.

Read "No Man Knows My History"

Krakauer got a lot of his information from that book.

If you can see how and why Mormonism is a complete fabrication, its not too tough to see how/why the same is true for Islam, Christianity, Judaism, and pretty much every other religion.

Its only because Mormonism is so recent (founded in 1800s) that we can so easily poke holes in it. Better record keeping, etc.

I keep my peeping stones scattered in the grass of my back yard. In Jefferson county we have plenty of stones to choose from. :)

Why? Because they started their cult a few hundred years late?

how is St. Anthony more believale? Because there is LESS evidence to scrutinize?

Its true that the longer that a myth or folklore is allowed to persist, the more believable it gets.

Case in point, most, if not all of the new testament is allegorical, and it wasn't even the new testament until hundreds of years after Jesus supposedly lived.

Now 2,000 years later people read many of the stories in there as if they are fact and events that truly happened.

because at least st. anthony was most likely a real person who lived and walked the earth.
peeping stones are unrealistic.
st. anthony>peeping stones

i'm not denying that
st. anthony most likely lived and breathed and roamed the earth
peeping stones never existed

I could point out things about the catholic church, whether it be doctrine, or actions, that I find absurd as well.

kidnapping jewish children and raising them catholic (like this was a good thing for them to be separated from their loved ones?)
Torture chambers in the basement.
Collecting mandatory tithing from its congregation
Eating crackers and pretending it was flesh, drinking wine and pretending it was blood.

Quite a few religions take communion that way.

Catholics and mormons are probably the strangest to me. Growing up catholic I never thought it was that odd, but looking back or watching the catholic channel here, it's just like a cult ritual. The robes, hats, chanting, etc. It's all smoke and mirrors.

Mormons do most of the things you described Lestat, just differently.
Baptising the dead (instead of stealing the kids, less barbaric)
Torture chambers, no. But their treatment of the natives was less than admirable.
Mandatory tithing still exists. they can't enter the temple or wear garments unless they do. Until just a few years ago the LDS office building was the tallest building in SLC, and legally no buildings were allowed to be taller.

And what the hell's a "morman"?

Is that AAP's personalized license plate? Or is this a racist thread directed at those darkies that got all over Euro land and gave us honkies pigment?

I agree with you man, I find it hard to draw large distinctions in the validity, or I have a hard time of labeling any one as more absurd as another.

Some people give the longer standing mythologies more respect and credit for some reason. In many ways, I find those WORSE because you have people still hanging onto ideas and ceremony that were relevant 2000 years ago, but hanging on by a thread in today's world.

At least some of the more modern religions have some relevance (although not much).

It seems that it is the time lived that makes the difference between a religion and what we call cults these days. I am thinking I need to start my own church and religion. I could really use the tax breaks. I had to pay out $2700 this year. freaking sucks.

The first rule of my religion is that there is no religion and religion is never to be belived. Its kinda like fight club. There there is the airing of greevences, and feats of strenght.
