Morbidly obese seeking help

Hi all,

I’ve been lurking around these discussion boards for the last few months, trying to increase my ‘health’ intelligence, and have learnt a great deal, so thank-you to you all.

I have a question though:

I am a female, 5’5 and 148kg. I was 168kg about 4 months ago, but lost the weight mainly by changing to a clean diet, and cutting the amount of carbs I was eating. The weight for my height and frame should be about 65kg. I have been cycling clen and ECA, but for a max of two weeks each before having about a month off. I use it to give a boost, probably mentally more than anything.

I’ve been looking at CKD however, according to calculations on:

http://www.users.voicenet.com/~petrizzi/fitness/ckdcalc.html

I need to consume 3900cals a day on my non carb up days (P 293g/C 20g/F 295g) and 3975cals and 2782cals respectively on my two carb up days.

I do weight training 3 days a week (which I have grown to absolutely love) and aerobics 3 days a week.

I don’t understand how I can lose fat/weight on 3900cals a day. Does this seem right to you guys?

I have to lose another 80kg (176lb) to get to my ideal weight, and have already lost 20kg (44lb). I feel stoked, but would like your help to keep me going.

Cheers

That calculator is not tweaked for someone who is obese. 3900 calories is FAR too much. I'd recommend 2000 calories and see how that works.

just wanted to add i am 6 foot 403 lbs. i was 422 about 2 weeks ago. from 52% body fat to 48 i think i am now. (if i remember correct) well ive been doing ckd but more like atkins with 1 day out the week where i have 2 cheat meals but i try to make them low fat hight carb. been doing great!! :) i think low carbs is really good for obese people. so give it a try..i dont really count calories...this is what i eat :

breakfast:
3 eggs
3 hotdogs
4 slices bacon
4-6 cups water

lunch:
burger king- double bacon cheeseburger no bread...with a small diet coke

dinner:
2-3 pork chops or ill order a pizza meat lovers and eat the the cheese and meats...not bread..

pretty simple...take my vitamins and 2-3 tabs of clean or ec stack and im pretty good to go :)

tomorrow im gonna weight myself and hopefully im under 400...i havent been under 400 in like 2 years

hope what ever u try works for u.

A buddy said screw it with dieting and this weekend he's flying from states to Paris and having lap-band surgery for $4200 (USA dollars).

He's 6' 4" and about 350lb - very sedentary life style with a penchant for PIZZA....

I'm no expert on weightloss but I'll throw my opinion in anyways.

At your weight, I think cutting calories is not the way to go. Your metabolism will slow down and your body will adjust to a low ammount of calories making it very difficult for you lose weight from that point on.
Lets say your calorie intake is 2000/day and you drop down to around 200 pounds but the weightloss has stoped. You're still unhappy with your body and considered overweight so in order to start losing weight again, you need to drop your calories lower. Problem with doing that is, your body has already adjusted to the calorie intake of a 150 pound person so now you're probably gonna end up starving yourself which might end up in failure or an eating disorder.

My advice to you is keep your calories at maintance (clean food only) and do an hour of cardio 3-4 days a week. At 403 pounds the weight will still fall off fast. Increasing cardio or slowely decreaing calories would be your best option in my opion.

Good luck

cardio and calorie cutting have the same effect on metabolism. If you do a ckd keep the carb-up at 24 hours because your insulin sensitivity is probably bad and the full 48 will result in fat-gain. My advice would be to keep doing what your doing until the fat-loss stops then make the change, if its not broken why fix it?

Btw congrats to all on this thread to have made great changes.

Thanks for all your advice, and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one out there battling with a huge fat problem.

I basically eat:

Breakfast - Eggs & bacon

Lunch - Chicken and some low GI veggies

Dinner - Red meat and some low GI veggies.

I also have Protein Shakes throughout the day to make sure my calorie intake doesn't drop too much. Since I've cut out carbs my appetite has dropped.

I also take fish oil and a multi-vitamin. My weights work out is progressing really well, and my strength has increased markedly. My cardio endurance has also rapidly improved.

With all the above going on, I seem to be dropping 3 - 4lbs a week.

The only thing I really worry about is not eating enough, as I've read in so many posts about the importance of eating enough to lose weight.

I just want to say thanks to all Elite Fitness contributors, as I have relied on you all many times to boost my morale, especially in the beginning when I didn't think I would ever be able to lose weight.

Cheers.

just my humble opinion... but i don't think the goal is to keep your calories up... but keep your metabolism going. in other words, stretch your 3 meals to 5-6 meals a day but make them SMALL meals.

also... i'd consider not eating 2-3 hours right before you go to bed.

That CKD bodyfat percentage calculator clocked me at just over 2%..... yeah right. I doubt I'd be less than 8%, if that. Of course, it does say it's not accurate.... I dunno how it could be when it doesn't take into account your height, musculature, density of apidose tissue, bone density, skin thickness and subcetaneous water etc etc....

.... when I was at university we learned that bodyfat percentages are never accurate because there's too many variables. That was in 1999.... I wonder if there's a RELIABLE, ACCURATE way to measure it as a percentage now?
