I'm still not clear as to which Moltke he is representing.
Helmuth von Moltke the Elder (1800–1891), Chief of the Prussian, and then German, General Staff 1857–1888.
Helmuth von Moltke the Younger (1848–1916), Chief of the German General Staff 1906–1914.
Helmuth von Moltke (1907–1945), German jurist involved in the July 20 Plot against Hitler in 1944.
Adam Gottlob Moltke, Danish courtier, statesman and diplomat.
Adam Wilhelm Moltke, Danish Prime Minister.
Erik Moltke, Danish art historian.

nope, it looks perfect.
i may be a day or two premature, but the day is perfect for it.

tomorrow is it.

i figure, the only harm that can be done, is that a few more days and it may have been better.

but maybe not.
and, i have plenty, so nothing lost. yes?

My grandpa was a Prussian officer, he made it quite clear when i was growing up that I wasn't "German" but Prussian. :) I've never known a more stoic man. BTW, until the day he died, he asserted the Reichsheer (German Imperial Army) was never defeated. The facts point to the fact they were a thread from total collapse but the revolution forced the armistice.

Yes, Grandpa served in the Imperial Army as an officer...immigrated after the war.

West Prussia is in Red and East Prussia is the blue province to the East...
Prussia's political center was Brandenberg....

He died when I was about eight years old. I knew very little and didn't ask about much; I didn't know he fought in the war until I was a teenager. It seems the family didn't want to advertise their connection. Apparently my relatives sold off everything after his death, as a historian I'm pissed; I would have really appreciated his service sidearm, a Luger I'm told. Based on what I've gathered from stories he was a low level officer and served in the East before being moved to the West, no surprise. Let's just say my family wasn't good at documenting anything. grrrr....

My mother's father was a doughboy and we still have the .45 colt revolver the family shipped to him at his request.

well, it's no surprize that he was quiet about his service.
proly not something you talk about when you migrate to the country you fought against lol
and i bet with a little work on your part (travel to germany) you could get more info about him...man that would be fun. when you retire that should be a project of yours.
that'd be fucking badass to have his military dress uniform w/a full rack of medals.
trench warfare in the bitter eastern cold would suck majorly, i'd take the swamps of flanders anyday

He modified our family name to make it sound English. Trust me, I've wanted to dig into the records but I have to pay the bills. I would give my left nut for his service sidearm and I would never sell it, talk about an heirloom. As I was told, "Prussians do their duty." :)

I can't imagine the difficulty of fighting a 20th century war with 19th century logistics.
