modified leg press

What do you guys think of strengthening hams and glutes by using the leg press with feet positioned higher? My squat and deadlift suck, I'm looking for a good exercise to help up it.
 
The problem is the leg press doesn't work on your back and the the other main stabilizers for squats and deads.

I think that placing your feet too high on the leg press machine puts undue stress on your lower back. Your squat and deadlift might suck but there is no subsitute for them. Besides the best way to improve those lifts is to do them.
 
Leg press is basically junk. I dont have access to a reversehyper machine so i just go basic with heavy good mornings, stiff legged deads, barbell rows will hit the hammies also if you do them heavy enough. Basically I am pretty new to Powerlifting, once I started doing heavy Good AM's my deadlift and squat went right up. Good AM"s are an under-rated exercise.
