Members of elite unite, A rant

Alright everyone here is a rant and a problem we can all take part in. I was watching ESPN and instead of sports it was the damn world series of poker. Now I like poker as well as the next guy but it isn’t a sport. Neither are spelling bee’s (no problem with them just don’t belong on ESPN), for that matter auto racing isn’t a sport. The cars aren’t athletes and unless you consider conditioning yourself to sit on your ass and drive in left circles for hours the drivers aren’t either.

What really pisses me off though is that real sports like powerlifting get the shaft. Once in a blue moon they put up and old meet and edit half of it out. Other sports like the highland games get limited air time while the aforementioned travesties get premium time slots. Athletes who pour there heart, soul, blood, sweat and tears get no respect but some jackasses playing card games get the spotlight. We need to do something about this. Maybe is everyone wrote ESPN and requested real sports coverage, or maybe a petition.

So basically I am asking all of you to write either ESPN or you local cable company and request that some changes are made.

Cheers,
Scotsman

yeah espn sucks, i just watch videos on the net now, or buy them myself.

this may not do any good, but you never know unless you try.

In my opinion the horse is the athlete that is why I thought it was great when ESPN put Secretariat in the top 50 athletes of all time. And if auto racing is a sport why isn't it in the olympics?

To be honest I'd rather watch poker than damned near any sport...except lifting competitions.

Therefore I'm going to establish the Poker and Strength Channel (tm).

Racing isn't a sport? So is horseback racing not a sport because they're just sitting their ass on a horse and riding in circles?

easy their........... powerlifting and bodybuidling and strongman/highland games arent either.

but yes.......... pretty much 90% population in city's of people over the age of 16 drive. which is all nascar is. does this mean im an athlete in training???...... next time a police officer pulls you over, tell him how your an athlete training, and he'll tell you where to pay your ticket.

Well, it's all about money. What would you do if you owned ESPN?

I know I would look in my best interest to make money.

It is time for a new station/network to arrive....

Supply and demand. If more people would tune in to it, they'd put it on. Right now the demand isn't for PL'ing...unfortunately.

Poker, I don't understand how that is on a sports channel...but from what I've heard, professional race car drivers have to be in pretty good shape to perform in a race of that caliber. Contrary to popular opinion, you don't "just sit on your ass." I don't know myself...that's just what I've been told from Nascar buffs that I know.

There are sports out there that don't require "muscle" per say...but rather strategy, technique, mental sharpness...they aren't exactly my preference but someone out there likes it enough to tune in. It all comes down to selling advertising slots...which comes down to ratings!

i don't know if you guys get it down south or not, but up here we have OLN (outdoor life network), and they offer quite a bit of strongman coverage :)

How about the Scotsman Network!

Becoming- if only I had the money to make it happen. Nothing but strength events and of course total buffet coverage.

fuck espn

and fuck card games

they should have a channel called "the strongman channel" and instead of comercials they have jenna jameson porn

i would never leave my house...except to train

That's a damn good idea, biggun'. I'll do just that.

I think auto racing is a sport and the drivers are athletes. I know some of you think that a 4 hour drive is a piece of cake but are you pulling G's for 4 hours nahh I didnt think so.

Total Buffet Coverage! Sweet! Can I host the annual 96z steak championships? Take that Madden!

Not sure what bundesliga is but I really don't like those other sports very well. I just want some good ole powerlifting.

what kind of ratings does wsm get on espn? they air it at unusual times its hard to make it a habit. most of my friends, male and female dont lift but they love to watch wsm. my ultimtae sports channel would have round the clock coverage of power and olympic lifting, ufc and pride bouts and strongman. throw in some football and hoops and thats enough

ESPN=Entertainment and Sports Programming Network, having said that I'd like to see more auto cross and/or auto rallies..I imagine those drivers are somewhat conditioned..hand eye coordination and reflexes, same stuff you need for the big sports

Here is a letter people can add their name to and send in. Also there is a link to an e-mail page under "contact us" on their homepage to send in programming ideas.

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing to you to address some of the discrepancies I see
between your advertising and your actual programming. You advertise your station as the "World Wide Leader in Sports", but I am likely to find programming that includes a spelling bee competition or the game of poker when I tune in to watch. While spelling bees and poker are interesting, they do not meet the criteria of sports.

On the other hand, true sports, such as power lifting or Olympic lifting, are rarely, if ever broadcast. Athletes in these sports who have poured their heart and soul into their endeavors receive almost no recognition from ESPN. It would almost seem that you select what you air strictly on the basis of profitability rather than on fairness to a wide variety of sports.

Your coverage of the World's Strongest Man competition is exemplary. I am also pleased that you have added coverage of some of the Highland Games. I would encourage you to continue adding a variety of sports to your programming. Covering the broadest range of sporting activities should be what the "World's Sports Leader" is all about.

I am not trying to discredit your network for attempting to add variety by covering a wide field of activities. Nor, am I saying that spelling bees and card games should not be televised. I am saying that these types of events should not be covered by a sports network. Please remain true to your advertising and cover only true sports.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

(your name)

The is the most incredible idea I have ever heard. Lets all chip in 100$ and make a channel 99.????

We need our anchors to have raspy voices, bald heads and then there has to be bigguns15 and spatts.,
