Anyone else sore from Sunday? Whew...

My legs are just exhausted...and so are my biceps!!!

please right click and 'SAVE TARGET AS'!!!!
please right click and 'SAVE TARGET AS'!!!!

2 3/8" Thick Bar Clean and Press
several warm-ups
231 x 1 EASY PR!!!
180 x 5 x 2 sets
130 x 5 continental clean MUCH EASIER!!!

I just need more practice with the thick bar and I think I can get 300+ in the next few months.

Incline Bench
several warm-ups
315 x 8 (3 rep PR!!!)
The bands on the incline MUST be working!!!!

Cheese had a good day too...

180 Clean and Press x 3 PR!!!!
152 clean and press x 5
225 x 2 Incline (near a PR I think)

Of course we finished off with some triceps, rotators, lats, biceps, and abs...all of them were VERY light except for the ab work.

Just wanted to point out that Cheese is going to MAKE me use more weight on my abs from now on. I'm going to do full ROM sit-ups with bands for tension...AT LEAST 1x per week from now on. They suck...but they build STRONG abs...and I need some strong ones.

Enjoy...

Don't remind me...

But we earned it, no? :)

Nice job... though i dont know about you sandbagging it on that 231 overhead... lol

Good job guys. Clint you made that clean and press look like a toy. Why don't you put some weight on the bar next time? j/k, lol :D

Nice job Cheese. Great effort on those clean and presses. :)

You know...Wortham has always called me a sandbagger:) He said that I'll tell him one number that I did...then I'll blow it away in competition. :)

Two weeks ago I tried 220 on the 2 3/8" bar and missed it because I couldn't clean it. I tried again about 30 seconds later, with a new attitude, and barely got it. The clean limits me greatly on this lift...especially with a thick and slick bar.

Marunde told me that his 2" bar was harder than the 2 3/8" bar that the pro's use because his 2" bar is slick (not rough).

I'll have to continental clean to much higher though...for a while. I WILL get 300 in the next few months though.

Do you ever do the continental clean without using your belt? I know you've mentioned that sometimes the belt is not allowed.

Would you do it the same way as the "Johnny Perry" continental clean?

If you have a video of you doing that way, that would be appreciated. I think it's something I should learn to counter-act my puny hands.:D

Thanks,
Joker

I don't use a belt on the log. Using the belt to continental the log makes the clean MUCH easier...but it is not allowed in the Pro's. The AM's DO allow it though and I HIGHLY reccomend using it if they allow it.

Johnny was the only person I've ever seen clean that way...yet again it was 300 pounds on a non-revolving 2 3/8" bar too. It worked for him...but I'm yet to see anyone else do it.

Do they allow the belt for axle clean and press?

Depends on the contest...but I don't know of any contest where they didn't allow it on the axle.

been doing these 2x a week with bands and weight straight legged for the last 4 weeks. my abs LOOK alot bigger and i feel alot more stable on the events

Hey good job fellas. Congrats on the personal records.
I have found that when I worked on my cleaning technique my poundages went up dramatically. It looks like Cheese could especially benefit from some technical work.
Nice inclines.

Damn bro you made the clean look like a reverse curl, got to get you some speed... Very strong incline press, looked solid on form and power...

You guys ever try and clean a 2 3/8" bar...or any thick bar for that matter in which the plates either DON'T roll or BARELY roll?

You can't clean it like an Olympic Lifter does...it takes A LOT of brute strength...especially when your hands really will not hold onto it very well. You have to pull hard from the floor...you can't go slow on the first pull. Because the plates do not roll either...you have to have A LOT of wrist strength to curl the bar into you too...

Damn i gotta pick myself up a thick bar for x-mas :)

Good work B!! Always keepin it real :) SOLID

Thick bars are pretty cool

They frustrate me though, I can clean 250+ on an olympic bar but couldn't get 180 on a 2 3/8 incher. Takes a LOT of grip strength to get enough power.

exactly why I wanna try it :) a BIG challange right? thats what this family is all about! :)

The continental clean was EASY:)

I think I'll stick with a regular clean for a while and as I go heavier (ala contest prep for a thick bar clean and press) I'll use the continental.

shit b I have trouble deadlifting anything over 225 with a thickbar nevermind cleaning it.

you're a strong mofo. Not that that's news or anything.

I know that I'm fairly strong...but ask the other Strongmen on here and they will tell you the same thing that I will. There are LOTS of guys who are MUCH stronger than I am in EVERY single event.

No I haven't ever tried cleaning a bar that thick. I can't imagine cleaning with no plate roll. I see why you it that way now but it looks like you're begging for an injury. I mean look at how far it forces Cheese to bend backward. Ouch.
