U.S. Customs Service Seizes 20,000 Anabolic Steroids
at "Millenium Express" Ferry Port of Mayaguez, P.R.

San Juan, P.R. -- The United States Attorney for the District of Puerto Rico, Guillermo Gil Bonar, and the United States Customs Service, today announced the seizure of Anabolic Steroids and the arrests of three individuals.

On September 3, 2001 Yamil LOPEZ-Cortes, age 25; Joel PEREZ-Caban, age 25 and Xiomara TIRADO-Zamot, age 23, were detained for an attempt to smuggle approximately 20,000 Anabolic Steroids with an estimated value of $100,000 dollars.

LOPEZ, PEREZ and TIRADO arrived at the Port of Mayagüez, Puerto Rico via the Ferry "Millennium Express" from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The control substance was discovered when the canine dog reacted positive to the smell of drugs. U.S. Customs Inspectors examined the red 1987 Dodge Raider driven by PEREZ-Caban and discovered the Anabolics concealed inside the rear panels of the vehicle. Examination of their luggage’s revealed more packages.

The vehicle registered to PEREZ-Caban was seized by U.S. Customs Officers and a penalty was assess to the three individuals.

The investigation continues.

I wonder what it is exactly that attracted the dogs.

The suspects proabaly had some other kind of rec drug(coke, marijuana...) along with the AS. Unless they started training them recently(which I don't know how they could for AS), I doubt the dogs were tipped off by AS...

Sometimes the dogs are trained to react a certain way (as if it has found or thinks it has smelled drugs) when given a certain subtle command. Then they can search the vehicle. If nothing is found, then they just blow it off on the dog, and let the people through. If something is found, as in this case, then they had probable cause because the dog reacted the way it did. Either way it's a lose/lose situation if their is a dog and they want to search your vehicle.

Hate to say it but they can and will act like the dog detected something if they want to do a search!! RADAR

search

it sounds like this was a port of entry, if so there is no need to fake a hit with the dog they can search at random. my thought is the guys probably had rec. drugs with them or in the car recently.

That piece looks like an "urban legend" here on the boards menaing this is the second time less than a year that I have seen someone come in to Puerto Rico from somewhere like the Dominican Republic. Where did this come from?
Anyway I will find out where this came from , otherwise bro this is a scare tactic.

If dogs can be trained to smell cancer cells in the human body, they can be trained to smell anabolics.

I'm sure they could. But you must remember they're on low priority. And also there's a variety of AS that they'd have to be trained for. It's alot easier to have to train a dog for marijuana and cocaine than dianabol, anadrol, deca, eq, winstrol, halo, anavar, testosterone, etc...
