Matt the Skywalker. The Kyoto Treaty.

I have not been around the listening to the radio or TV in a few weeks. Last I heard was only one country had signed the Kyoto treaty. Is that still true? If so, what is holding back the Euro lot.

i think most of them have made moves to reduce their CO2 emmissions, but none of them have reached what was outlined in kyoto, apparently they gotta few more years to reach their target i think  .....im sure they wont however.

Well, our decision not to sign it has certainly taken considerable momentum away from the treaty, particulary given that it was aimed at slowing US economic growth.

The standards may prove to be too stringent to cost-effectively implement - is it worth $10 per gallon of gas to get it .000001% cleaner?

Also, a new study shows that the temps for the last 100 years are on average 1 degree warmer than the average temps for the last 100,000 years, so the whole idea of global warming has been cast into some doubt.

That's not it. First you sign it, then you implement the needed steps to lower emissions. However, the treaty is not realistic and they know it. The only nation in the world to ratify it is Romania. European nations are getting the best of both worlds right now: Bust Bush's balls about not ratifying the treaty (make the greens happy) while wiping the sweat off their brow since they don't have to ratify it themselves. You see, if it was such a great treaty, they would take the lead and not wait for us. Europe is a continent of followers, not leaders.

I just don't understand why everyone doesn't get what Kyoto is all about. To go along with that thing would literally DEVASTATE out economy. Jobs would be lost. Companies would leave the country. Your energy bills would skyrocket. Your food bill would skyrocket. YOU would have to PAY A LOT MORE for EVERYTHING!

I understand the treaty would damage our eco. It really pisses me off the George does not pull a Reagan and say "you go head and sign it" to the Euros. They are just playing with my man Bush. I just can't understand why he is not saying anything back about them being so reluctant.

One thing I found interesting about global warming data is the collection sites. As our nation and others have prospered, cities have expanded and suburbs have been created. All the while, the same data collection sites are being used. What was once a field or the edge of a woods, is now a little, or even a big, heat island. But, of course, this doesn't further the agendas of those who want to prove global warming exists so that little problem is swept under the rug.

The Dude

Did you see my post about President Bush? It addresses in greater detail the Kyoto problems....I was doing the abridged version here.

Recent data indicates that average global temoperature in teh last 100 years is 1 degree hotter than the average global temp in the past 100,000 years.

I believe I did. There is so much junk science being tossed around when it comes to global warming that it can make one sick. Politics is not a science and does not make for good science. When will people learn?

There's a prof at Williams College that is doing research into the ozone layer and she (said to be the best in the field) has said that the ozone layer is unaffected by us and it has for millions of years gone through cyclical changes in size (the hole at the norther cap).
Along with her research was global warming pattern research - she also says that nature has had far more of an impact than we have (comets coming, volcanos, that sort of thing) and it goes through natural cycles as well and any warming we are seeing is (at Matt said) going to be very slow in terms of human years, and again, isn't our fault.
