Low Box Squats in 5x5?

What is everyones opinions on incorporating these into the 5x5 program instead of normal back squats.
I am thinking of using a 10 inch box next 5x5 df run.
The stance would be a slightly wider than shoulder stance as I have been using not the wide stance westside advocates.
I tried them today on my day off and with the pause at the bottom it really helps you set your form and keep a tight squeeze in your lower and upper back. You can also feel the push through your glutes. I had to drop the wieght 25kg on a top set of 3 from my back squat 1x3.
Have people used this before in this program and do you think it will help increase my overall back squat .

.

I'm no expert at box-squatting but others have asked about using other back squat variations and it's been "okayed" if I remember correctly. So long as you're doing some sort of heavy squatting 3x/wk., you should be good.

from what i just read, i think it said, and i quote...

"don't fuck with the sqaut portion of the program"...

I asked MC2 about box squats in 5x 5 awhile back:

Yeah, you can throw them in. You could use them for Wed (keep in mind the Wed squat session disappears in the 2nd phase), you could also use them for M/F. There are other alternatives but I'm hesitant to have someone overly adapt this program without first running it at least once. With a good base understanding of your own tolerances and how they relate to the program, it becomes a lot easier. Most people who overly change it before ever trying it blow it up.

I'm currently doing box squats on Wed. This is my 4th run through: twice I did back squats on Wed, once I ran it with fronts, now running it with box squats.

jesus...how short are you? a 10" box is fuckin low. probably too low for you to get any benefit.

I am 5 foot 11"
It is actually 11"
With an 11" box I will be going a little higher than I would be going with atg olympic squats.

You can do it, you just need to think about the program. For example I think someone a long time ago was using more PL style wide stance parralel box squats as his Wed lift and let them actually creep up over his M/F ATG squat poundage. Well, that ceases to be "lighter" squatting at that point. Not necessarily always wrong or always bad but obviously there is major impact there as you are screwing with the pattern a lot and basically eliminating the light and making it very heavy. So just use your head.

you should go more with a 14" box. that is what I use, I'm the same height as you, and it gets me at just below parallel
