low back problems

I've been having lower back problems and I don't know what is causing it. I'd say it's very tight and i need to stretch it or it might even be injured, i don't know (if it's injured, then it's been a 6 month injury). If I am to sit up straight and raise one of my legs (fully extended) it hurts my hips/lower back area. I'm not sure if it's tight or not because it doesn't have the same pain as when you static stretch a muscle. Can anybody help me?

Depending on your personal philosophy, either go see a chiropractor or an orthpedist. What you're describing is a positive straight leg raise, which generally means you have nerve involvement (long range diagnosis is half assed, at best).

Stretching or exercises, done in ignorance, could make the condition worse. Seriously, go either see a chiro or ortho or a sports medicine place.

Take a look at the hip flexor stretch I posted one one of the most recent pages of sarge's journal. Tip #14 in this article has some good info on hip flexor tightness/stretches, too.

i had a lower back injury about a yr ago from deadlifting cold. make sure your warmed up b4 your lifts & use ice afterwards. celebrex also works.

thank you i'll definately look into the rehab work lol. I warm up enough so that my body is warm and I get the groove right, but it might be from an injury a longgg time ago because i would go from deadlifting my max 5x5 every week then go up to my 3x3 max because i had no idea what i was doing and probably hurt myself doing it, because i never took the time to go up in weight incrementally. Musclemom - I've read up about the straight leg raise test and I don't feel any pain going below the knee nor is it a sharp pain that i can pinpoint exactly. it's still a bad pain though that is in the lower right back region. Next time I go to the chiropractor i'll ask him if he can do the straight leg raise test and see what he thinks.

Might be lower back pumps.....they are painful at times. If you are on gear you will get some intense lower back pumps just from walking around.

no, they're not back pumps, it acutally feels better right after i train. but the day afterwards it hurts like hell. and i'm not on gear lol, i'm only 16. Though today I noticed something: When I squat it doesn't hurt, when I do a standing press, I can feel it and it hurts. it doesn't feel like a muscle, and i really hope it's not a disc. And no, i don't lean back as far as possible to press, I try to stay as upright as possible with tightening my entire back. It doesn't hurt that much but i can feel it there when I am pushing.

My hips are definately tight. My entire body is tight lol (though i can still go in full ROM in squats, etc.)

I went through that for awhile when I was getting used to squatting 3 days a week. I literally had problems walking around for weeks at a time. Horrible when your job is picking up and carrying cases of wine.

For my case, it was a problem of weak abs. My back was getting so much stronger from deads/squats that my abs couldn't keep up.
