Lose Fat...maintain Weight...possible?

My bro is trying to lose some belly fat but stay around 195. Is it possible? He is eating about 3000 calories a day and doing cardio 2 sessions a day around 30 min each. He also lifts hrad twice a week and moderate twice a week. I told him I am not sure but I will post it cause these dudes on this site know it all, gimme some info.

It's possible if he's new to the sport or if he uses AS. Otherwise... I wouldn't count on that happening.

- only cut calories max. 10% below maintenance
- eat high protein, moderate fat, low carbs
- cut back the cardio, do more lifting

i am managing to lose body fat but keep my weight stable

trick is not to drop your calories too low, i followed the eating guidelines and calorie guidelines from John Berardi's don't diet diet and i'm 140lbs and my calories came to 2300
if i train and lift i keep my weight stable but have dropped 3% bodyfat in the last 3 months

I think it is very possible. I have been dieting for almost 3 weeks now and I can notice considerable fat loos and I've only lost 1 lb.

As a general rule, I agree with that statement. Everyone is different though, other factors can come into play like diet, age, genetics.....

Good answer. It is doable, its just that it is much harder for some people than for others. To gain muscle and lose fat at the same time requires a pretty intenste weight training routine and a very well thought out diet for most.

maintenance calories (high protein, moderate carb and fat) + sprints + heavy lifting = minimal muscle loss, high fat loss.

he prolly wont stay at 195 tho. thats not to say he'll lose muscle, its just that its hard to build more muscle when you're on a maintenance diet. but the weight he does lose will be mostly fat if done correctly.

you need to avoid insulin spikes throughout the day, keep it to post workout only if that. I lift in the morning when insulin sensitivity is highest and then i take in dextrose.. then i do cardio (mma/judo) at nite and just use milk in my PW shakes for that.

That has helped me keep my fighting weight while reducing BF increase strength and muscle mass. i also do not cheat on my diet and keep HIGH levels of protein and good low GI carb sources

Babyfacedassassin: could you post some of the diet guidelines you follow
