longest you ever kept a car?

I bought a new Pontiac in 1992 and sold it in 2002 for $3500 cash. at that time it was still my daily driver and ran great.

Nope, it was locked.......I had just moved here and was going to get a magnetic ignition kill switch thing like my wife's suv has, but they just couldnt wait a day.......I was in Vegas for literally about 10 hrs before it was stolen......
 
2001 Taurus SES (a friend sold Ford's)
2003 Dodge P/U (4.7L ... should have bought the HEMI)
2005 Toyota Corolla LE (A friend rearranged it for me post-Katrina when body shops were swamped, literally and figuratively)
2006 Ford Ranger (same friend still selling Ford's)
2007 Toyota Yaris Liftback

next? with gas prices prob another subcompact ... maybe the redesigned 2009 Honda Fit (safer with side airbags and higher crash ratings)
 
I come from a family of car keepers. I sold an '89 Mazda MX-6 after 10 years. I bought a '99 Mazda 626 in 2002 and I will likely keep that til 2011-2012. I only drive 11K a year. My dad is the original owner of a '63 Impala; still runs. I'm going to restore it and give it to my un-conceived son.

I liked it. Even the automatics had a toggle that changed the shift points between economy and power. The engine even sounded different. The tranny crapped out at the end though.
 
4 years was the longest. Other than that it's 2 years. i get sick of a car pretty damn quick. I've had 17 cars and I'm 31
 
I would probably switch every 6-7 years if I was in a financial position to do so. For a while I was not, plus I really despise car payments. I paid $15K cash for the one I drive now.

lol I use to change every 4000 miles for my demo.. that gets old.. I honestly could not remember what damn car I was driiving due to the fact I was in and out of one every 6 to 8 weeks lolol

I had a new 1999 Chevy then traded for a 2003 but this one I think I want to keep it till it really dies a slow death. We actually have 2 Chevy's from 2003. One with a Japanese motor and the other the GM 4.3L

We dont want any more car payments...that $1000.00 is better off in the kids RESP :)
 
26 years old...Have had over 27 cars since I was 16. Only a few of them I have ever had long enough to put new tags on. Quite a few I sold before the temp even expired.

I still own the 1970 Camaro Z28 that I bought new. For anybody trying to do the math on that one, bear in mind that I was only 4 yrs. old when I bought it.

OK. First of all I may have been older than 4- my memory isn't all that clear. The car is the original Hugger Orange w/ white stripes. Exterior looks factory except for American Torque Thrust II 17" mags & sticky modern tires. I added better sway bars & bushings, so between that & the good tires it really handles more like a modern performance car.

Motor is original block with 11:1 comp. ratio, has a bigger solid lifter cam, AFR aluminum heads, headers w/ good 2 1/2" exhaust system. It's probably putting out somewhere around 450 HP. Trans is the original Muncie close ratio 4 speed. Would like a 5 speed but no rush since I just use it for pleasure drives anyway.

just don't ask for a list of mods i've done to each ride. that will really put me in depression!!!! its all good though, i've always been a car/truck nut.
 
a car, besides marriage, is probably the single worst investment (if you can even call it that) out there...but to each his own :)

sports cars are not an investment. I like to say it is a hobby more then anything
 
I still have a 1994 Honda Accord. So 14-15? years now.

It's got 120,000 miles on it, running perfect. Just put an alarm on it and a remote starter because it was broken into 2 weeks ago! lol They busted the steering column and tried to take it, but apperently it didn't start or they were spooked and left. hmmm. Well, I still have it. Hopefully for 200,000 miles. That's like another ten years. damn... I'll take 3 more years.

Bought it for Base- $16000 + tax+ warranty = $19k cash. Never looked back after 14 years and counting.

right, since nobody needs a car in the USA :rolleyes:

The average guy doesn't buy a car as an investment. It buys it for transportation, not to turn profit on the deal.

I sell cars for a living and you wouldn't believe the amount of people that will trade cars in under 1 year of owning it.

Shit...I've had people trade cars in after 1 month. Yes, they take a major beating, but don't really seem to care.

Cars are a fashion statement to a lot of people nowadays, and they always gotta have the newest shit out there. If Bob down the street gets a new car/truck, his neighbor wants one too.

On a side note...You wouldn't believe how often I'll sell someone a car w/o them even test driving it. (yeah..i'm that good ;) ) I've even sold a truck w/the guy not even looking inside it. HA!
