Long Runs vs Sprints

I am trying to cut up and I do 30 min runs about 3 times a week at a moderate pace.

Twice a week I just jog to warm up, and then do about 8 100m sprints with a minute or so rest in between.

After the sprints I feel like I did so much more even though I only work out for about 20 minutes. My metabolism is revved up, (I have to run to the pisser almost once an hour), my mucscles feel tight, and I sleep better.

I would cut out the long runs entirely, but the Army requires that I run a 2 mile for time twice a year so I feel I need to stay fairly proficient at endurance running.

Thoughts?

the sprints can help your long run endurance, but you should do em once ina while

but yeah sprints are better for leaning up and getting fit

Well if you run the 2 mile for time twice a year then figure the date's you have to run them and just do your sprints until about a month in advance of the day and you will rapidly be able to make a good time because the sprinting will have made your heart and muscles strong and given you a foundation of power and explosiveness which will quickly translate to better performance on your 2 mile run. A month of training for it will prepare you just fine as long as you are in shape when the time comes.

It's been said that an athlete that stays in good shape can reach peak performance in as little as 4-6 weeks.
