Long nails or short?

Mine aren't real but they're really long. If I don't have acrylic nails, my nails are super short. I figure it's still a splurge to keep them long as I know I'll have to have them short once I start my RN clinicals. :)

Once my nails get to a certain length -- they break off or peel off. And they will only grow long & stay long in the summer. My cuticles are a mess -- rough & jagged & I can't keep polish on!

With all the home remodeling I'll be doing soon, no nice nails for me anytime soon!

I like long nails, but they just don't work on MY hands, because my hands take a beating. I could get a manicure and they'd be chipped in a day.

short - i have a phoebia of long nails. it makes me feel like my hands are dirty. i know, i'm a freak.

medium length....i usually stick with a square french manicured tips....and just keep them up with fills....they look classy and go w/everything :)

We close in just over an hour! And we start gutting the house tonight! So I've been thinking the same thing. Who wants to grout and paint etc with long pretty nails? I think they'll get wrecked.

Mine are about 1/8" past the tip on my finger and I'll put some type of nude or clear polish. Lately they have been shorter and breaking a lot - I'm going to assume it's the winter weather. It's very strange.

I did find this great new place to get manicures and pedicures - the places out here are all too fancy pansy spa like and frankly I want to go in have them done and leave. I hate to go to a place that I feel I'd have to dress to go and the endure all the chit chat fake poo poo that you have to do.

In the winter & can't grow mine at all & I know what you mean about the frou frou spa places. I go to a place across the street from work & they are Vietnamese I think, but anyway they only charge $10 for a manicure. They do a very good job & at a reasonable price....

That is normally what I have. But right now, I am very into the 'nude' nailpolish too though....

I wore them long as a teenager (they're really strong and I could probably grow those freakish ones that curl around, if I didn't have to use my hands...I've always wondered how the heck those folks wipe their butts...), but ever since I had kids, I've worn them clipped short (didn't want to scratch that tender skin). It's also handy for pottery, and for getting my Burt's Bees eye jelly out of that little jar...

I don't paint my fingernails, because they just get chipped and I can't be bothered. I do like to paint my toenails, though, so that they look nice when I'm staring at them in downdog... (yoga is barefoot, remember)... my favorite polish, which gives me what I call my party toes, is clear, with tiny snowy glitter, as well as really big, multicolored glitter. Fun!

I have long nails, but they have acrylic on top. I get the pink & white fill so they never need anything more than a clear coat of polish on top. The girl who does them for me is very good and the acrylic isn't thick. I can go 4 weeks inbetween fills if I just take a few minutes to buff down the edge after they start to grow out at about 2 weeks and apply another clear coat of polish. I get a coat of white on the underside of my nail to keep the undersides clean. I hate to see pretty nails on the top and then unattractive undersides. I will usually get some kind of decoration for holidays on my ring fingers. I can't type with short nails.

I kept my acyrlics for a while but the expense of the constant fill ins just killed me financially. With my diet and high protein volume my nails grow super fast and I needed fill ins every damn week. $$$$$$

Now I keep mine natural and short. I've found I dig into my own palms REALLY badly when doing bicep curls if they get long at all.

I keep mine short. But I've had fake nails a couple of times for formals and stuff. I just can't seem to do a lot with them on though, lol. I might get them done for my upcoming formal though on the 17th of April. Maybe. :)

I love long nails and used to take good care of mine so that they were long and healthy. Due to my Krav Maga training I have to keep them short, so that I do not hurt anyone. Felt a little strange in the beginning but I'm getting used to it now actually...

Krav Maga? I'm guessing this is either martial arts or some kind of touch therapy (which are pretty opposite ends of the spectrum...).

It is a kind of army combat training, aimed at self defense.
It is really fun actually and hopefully it can be useful if I end up in a threathening situation in the future, you never know... :worried:

I took jui jitsu for a little while...it IS fun (until you have to roll around on the ground with a sweaty, stinky, fat man). It was actually that, in part, that compelled me to start lifting again. I realized that no matter what my martial arts skills were, I wouldn't be able to do much if I wasn't also STRONG.

I try to use a nail strengthener for mine. It helps..I think its Sally Hansen..it is awesome strenghtener. I have bitten my nails for years but I have stopped now.....now I just have a problem with them splitting....Im thinking of getting acrylic nails but they would have to be sports length because I flip them off everytime I do something.

I have medium length acrylic with rounded tips. I like french and all colors. Right now I have on OPI's Shangri la-la lilac, they are the color of easter eggs. :)

I have same problem and I´d like my nails long. Is there something I can do with them? Is there some vitamin which makes nails stronger? Help!!

The thread title is "Long nails or short?" I would like to post "I`m a little surprised at all the short nails are better replies I`ve read, I like short nails myself actually. I`m not into the cat woman type nails."

If you would also write that this post is from Gonelifting, I would appreciate that.

Thanks
gonelifting is having a cow in C and C to get this posted:)

Medium length to long but cannot stand acrylic on them. Feels like i can't scratch or I'm scratching with plastic.

And to lady viking you need lots of calcium, but most of nails and hair is genetics

Avenirup, I knew you were really a woman! (Didn't the last guy to change his gender to post in here get banned from this forum or something?)

Mine are long at the moment but I am about to trim them down to a nice short length. They are getting in the way of my lifting & typing.

Krav Maga sounds like such a cool art to learn. I have been thinking about taking those classes for awhile now.

ladies be careful of using acrylic products that have mma. Alot of vietnamese
salons use it and charge cheap prices. MMA will cause nail damage, causing the nail to fall off, and kidney failure. There is many other side effects. I am a nail tech and have seen many side of effects from the stuff. I also use to go to the Viet, bc they were so fast, but after my nails started falling off-well lets just say I will pay more for a healthy product. Stick with OPI products or usa products. Ask to see the orginal container of liguid and powder-make sure it does not have MMA in it.
