Lifting and growth stunting

this is sort of a repeat thread, but on the last one all i got was opinions.

are there any studies or articles that have to do with this, or maybe can i get some "scientific" opinions- such as speaking in scientific terms instead of simply "i think it helps you grow because of the release of growth hormones"

either way, im lifting for life but im jus tw
 
all i have to offer is opinions and observations, such as:

gymnasts, men and women alike, have stunted growth until an injury lets the body rest. women will not have thier first period until injury, or until the body catches up- sometimes later than 18 yrs old. a girl, nicole, at the gym i go to did not have her period and did not even hit puberty until 16 yrs old. it all happened when she blew out her knee and she couldnt train. within 6 weeks she got an ass, titties, and her period.

i have (unfortunatly) never even heard of studies done with weight training and youth. the intensity is so variable with lifting that it would be hard to keep rigid.

I always thought people were gymnasts because they were short, not that they were short because they were gymnasts.

thats true but im 16,

im not asking about puberty and stuff, i mean purely in terms of height and bone structure
 
gymnasts can be permanantly stunted (hieght wise ) if they compete too long. the growth plates will fuse once you are so old. look at almost all the women and men in the olympics. svetlana is the only tall gymnast woman, and all the guys are really short too.

bones can be permanantly damaged no matter what the age. under heavy stress bones get hairline fractures from abuse, and can become brittle if not allowed to heal.

if you are 16 and lifting, just lift smart. when your body says you need an off day, give it an off day. no matter what your size is now, you have the rest of your life to build strength and physique. dont rush it, and lift in proper form and you will be fine.

what are your goals?
 
hahaha. god zilla gorilla. just lift for the next few years and worry about form, form, form. your body wont stop getting taller for the next few years (in all likelyhood). how tall are you, and your weight? is your dad or mom much bigger than you?
 
I have heard a lot lately (but not read any scientific articles) that it does not stunt growth. I think overtraining apart from generally being bad would be a concern on this matter anyway.
I have read an article once on CNN I think that it is recomended for youngsters up to the age of 16 to workout 2-3 times a week with 1-2 sets max per body part on a 12-15 rep range. It is enough to grow and set up a good basis.

Still, I know you asked for scientific articles and not opinions but I have none, opinionwise though, look at all the athletes like, football or basketball players and they play all the time from a very young age...
 
You requested that I view this thread and give some feedback,but I really dont have much to contribute. All I can say is I started when I was 14 and never got much taller, if any taller. Not sure what to make of it, but Im still taller then my parents. So I dont think I was meant to be tall, no one in my family is.
 
I think that adopting the weight training lifestyle would actually result in more hieght growth than otherwise because of the quality eating we do.

Think about it, most teenagers eat junk. Seriously I wonder how much taller I'd be if I had eaten 4-5 healthy protein-filled meals per day instead of 2-4 of crap
