Life in Prison Or Suicide?

Recently two DJ's were arguing over whether suicide is preferable over life in prison w/o parole. One said death is preferable to a daily assraping from Bubba and no freedom. The other said anything beats dying. So, if you were given a life sentence with *NO* chance of parole, would you commit suicide? I say no because:

1. Most people fear death too much to kill themselves and
2. Most people would choose ANY form of conscious life over death, no matter the quality. Would you want to die if you were paraplegic?

The Aethiest view of non-existence is one where there is no longer any pain or suffering after death. One returns to the point of pre-birth existence.

The Aetheist believes there is nothing to fear as emotions are non-existent when one ceases to exist. All pain, suffering and torment are at an end.

Theists may be more apt to stay alive as suicide is considered the 'ultimate sin' by some. Hence, eternal damnation. Not all theists ascribe to this philosophy.




Before anyone answers 'yes', they would kill themselves, know that suicide begets suicide. In ending ones' life they transfer their own pain to others who care for them. Many becoming suicidal in their own right. It happens. I have seen it. Would you be willing to end your own life, knowing your death may cause the death of other family members?


In my case, this is something I contemplate daily. Though, my reasons are quite different.

Even in light of my recent situation. I would say NO. I would live.
