Coming off right now, and I can't seem to absorb as much protein. Pretty much have gas and the shits all day. I eat plenty of fiber, and only take in one shake and two bars on top of real food, but it is quite clear that my body can't do anything with it.
I am hesitant to reduce my protein intake, as I want to hold onto as much of my gains as possible. Are there any other solutions? (apart from staying on all the time)
 
If you're going through that and already have enough fiber then you really should back off the protein a bit. You're body is telling you that it CANNOT handle that much.

In the mean time, you could try gas-x or ginger root.
 
Well I'm not sure the protein is your problem. You said you take in plenty of fiber. If your taking in too much it will cause gas and the shits. Try dropping your fiber intake a little and see how you react to that.

on a side note, those bars you are eating are complete trash.........ditch them
 
1. Your problem may be the BARS. I'm a bar freak I know! But I'm gradually neglecting their use. Most "low net carbs" bars contains lots of Maltitol, which is the NO 1 gas maker. There are newer more expensive sugar alcohol based sweetenets with no gas effect but they are more expensive so the manufactures don't give a shit (actually the 'user' is the one 'taking the shit - literraly' yuch). Cut the bars to NONE for a few days in a row and avoid other products containing maltitol, lactitol and the others.

2. Use BETAINE! A cheap supplement that covers all your protein digestion needs may be: Betaine HCl from country life (it includes Betaine, Pepsin, Papain and Bromelain). I'm taking 2 caps with every protein meal containing 40-50g. So far 300-400g of protein (70% whey, 20% caseine & 10% other)and almost zero farts. Huge difference then before using the protein digestion enzymes and betaine.
 
happens to me all the time....up your carbs......it should subside.....happens when im taking in less than 100gr carbs...with high protein

Well, In order:

-Apex- Gas stopped when I stopped eating bars, but I will try Gasx or Ginger root if it shows back up.

-Shamrock- Kinda doubt my fiber is TOO high. Pretty much just Old fashioned oatmeal with Splenda for meal 3, salad with meal 6 and Veggies with all other meals.

-Jkurz1- Kinda have to agree with you on this, at least while I am off. When I am on, I can handle the protein, and they come in mighty handy.

-Junk-Did just what you said, went a couple days without bars. Gas vanished. Ate one today, there it is. And Betaine is on my list for tomorrow.

Try using less supplements and more whole foods for your protein sources and see if that changes anything. If it doesn't see a doctor.
