kovacs?

Kovacs would get his ass kicked worse at a powerlifting meet and strong man contests. Esp the strongman contests -- those a real rough on your body and I'll gaurantee he is one fragile mf'er. Like I said before -- he's a mediocre bodybuilder who wouldn't stand a chance against national lvl powerlifters. State lvl, yes, and I'm not even talking about the top national guys -- just the guys who place 4 or 5. The top guys would blow him out in warmups.

I don't hate him, but he is full of shit. Or at least the claims of his lifts, whoever is responsible for them is full of shit.

I don't care much one way or the other, but to call him one of the strongest men of all time, he better step on the platform and prove it cause I think that is the only way I'll respect his claims. In powerlifting what you and your buddies can tag team bench on a smith machine don't mean jack. :splat:

I don't know the man, he probably is a decent guy:beer:. But the advertising people behind him and that toad Zulak :destroy: better put up or shut up. I'd say he could not put up numbers in a legit lift that Ricky Dale Crain could do. And he is a 165 class lifter.:D

You can't blame Kovacs, he is making a living off of Muscletech, he is basically an employee for the company...Like how Calvin Klein has models, Kovacs is a Muscletech model, of course he is a big strong guy and of course muscletech exaggerates his size and his lifts, but you can't dislike the guy because he is earning a living, I think just about everyone here would do the same thing if they looked like Kovacs, besides Greg doesn't make the claims, Muscletech does...Muscletech is wrong to make it seem like he should be held up in the strength world right with Paul Anderson and Kaz and Anthony Clark....but they sell products to people who read the magazines, so they are doing something right......the bottom line is it is a business and as far as Kovacs goes he is a puppet for a giant supplement company, Personally I think he should concentrate on his strength because the guy doesn't have what it takes to have a successful bodybuilding career and I don't think he will ever get any respect from powerlifters or strongmen unless he can demonstrate his lifts...but I don't know the man and I think it is unfair to bash him.

People don't dislike him for making a living. People dislike him because he is making a dishonest living. If he could put up the numbers he claims he would be at the WPO today taking home $50,000. I am sure Muscletech does not pay him that much for a days work.

The problem is that they publish these numbers that he supposedly does as legit lifts and it takes away from the people that are actually doing it. And the typical putz reading the magazine will believe it, but we know better. He is to blame just as much as Muscletech. He is doing what he has to do to make a killing in the industry, but it pisses many people off that he makes BS claims of strength when he can never even get on the platform with people like Garry, Coan, and Goggins.

I would love to see him put up or shut up!

guys, damn, you all sound really jelous of this guy.
dont take this the wrong way, i was just wondering about how he would do if he trained to be a powerlifter, but you all just started giving this guy shit because he is bigger and probably stronger than most of you.
Not one of you answered my question, just said the same as the next guy,
'' he is full of shit, he is just big, not strong, he would suck in powerlifting comps''
I dont know much about powerlifting, and wont pretend that i do, i am a bodybuilder, but i do know how and have gotten stronger myself and i am pretty sure that at his size, with those measurements (even if 25 inch arms, thats still HUGE!) he must be able to lift somewhere near those claims(yeah, i really hate muscletech ads too, they suck!) and he does train with rep range 12+ which aint that good for strength last time i checked.
So if this man concentrated on powerlifting-strength and not bodybuilding, then surely he would really kick some serious ass.
please someone, give me a decent answer, if you hate this guy, fine, but would he be a decent powerlifter??

thanx!

welsh, everything here is just speculation of course BUT I think your question has been answered. I dont think anyone here knows Greg enough to truly HATE him and he cant be responsible for the text that appears in the advertising featuring him.

BUT, my opinion is that gym lifts can be WAY different than meet lifts (ever done a max bench attempt after doing 3 max squat attempts?) Also, you keep mentioning the size of his arms/legs and the like - it doesnt matter! I had an old school teacher with 27-inch arms (FAT) - the judges go by what you push, not what you push it up with. Plenty of HUGE bodybuilders out there that cant squat what some of the 165-pound powerlifters can, (Saw wade Hooper and Tony Conyers hit 749 and 750 @165 on sunday - Yow!)

My $.02

Who hates the guy? I don't even know who he is. I just know he talks, in the ads, like a powerlifter, but does not go on the platform. I am sure he would do well if he focused his training toward power. We will never how he could do since he will never go on the platform. Why should he? In the BB world you can walk around saying you bench 750 and apparently other BB will believe it. If a powerlifter walks around and says that, we want to know the proof. Gym lifts don't mean squat. My grandmother benched 500 in the gym (true story :good: )...who cares because she can't do the bar in competition. Maybe she needs some of that Muscletech protein.

To answer your question, I think he could do good. He probably would never be competitive with Frank or Coan, but he would do well. I would love to see him up there. I would also love to see Muscletech sponsor his ass up on the platform when he benches 750. If it is not legit enough to do on the platform, it is not legit enough to print.
