Knee Wraps

New member
bros, at what weight would yall start wearing knee wraps? I weigh 185 and I will be attempting a 395 squat today (and possibly 405), but I've always squatted without wraps..just a good ol' belt. I was starting to wonder if I should wrap my knees up just to be on the safe side.

also, what kind/brand of knee wraps do yall wear? I dont want one that restricts my motion too much, just a pair that'll keep my shit safe

peace SHAWTY

It depends on how your knees feel during and after squatting. I used to wear wraps, but I don't like how they feel when they're on. If you're worried, give them a try. The ones to use look like Ace bandages and you wrap/unwrap after each set, fairly tight. I'm curious to see what you think.

I'm kind of in the same situation, I've never used wraps and trying to determine the safety vs. 'rebound' benefits.

order em online? regualr sporting goods store?

I"ve done a completely raw 664 squat (no belt, wraps, suit...nada) so I believe that one can squat heavy without them.

I wear them when I squat in gear only. I'm not sold on the fact that they keep you "safe".

When I do wear them...I wear Frantz TP-5000 XL's.

Inzer iron z wraps are my favorite wraps... if you've never used wraps before it takes some getting use to because it will feel awkward at first.

well alright bros, appreciate all the help...I've heard about the inzer wraps, I might try to go for somethin' a little less restricting

thanks,

CN

That's kind of what I was wondering. Are heavy weights more prone to cause injury to an unsupported knee, or are the straps just a lifting aid like a bench shirt?

Ed Coan's knee blew out with wraps on..they dont make you immune to anything..if you are not having any problems no need to use wraps unless going for a max attempt

I use the Inzer's and I do feel they give me extra support. I diet down in the summer and with the extra fat gone the wraps help when I go heavy.

good point jim, are they actually keeping your knees safe or do they give your squat those extra pounds....

Checking out the link to the Inzer wraps it seems to be more the latter

  • Super tight, extreme rubber strand design for the ultimate rebound.
  • Designed to grip the skin which eliminates the need for chalking the knees to keep them in place. And doesn't slip around on itself as is known of other wraps.
  • Gets tighter, easier, during the movement even when not wrapped to total tightness.
  • Far ahead of anything else.
  • When wrapped to total tightness, generates the most energy and power of any wrap in the world.
  • Smoke all your lifts with the IronWraps Z!

:worried:

Just the thought makes me queasy

I think I'll grab a pair just for the max attempts as wnt2bb pointed out...

real quick though, anyone know if its $22 for a pair or 22 for one band on the Inzer site?

thanks,
CN

$22 for the pair. you might want to spend the extra $2.5 and get the 2.5 meter ones.

Whatever the designer's original intent, they definitely help you to get the weight up.
