Kidney test results???

I'd been having some lower middle back pain that my chiro. was unable to treat successfully, so I had some blood work done. Primarly to see if my kidneys were being damaged. Here are the results of the tests that concern me. Although they are not out of the 'normal' range a few are right at the top.

What do you guys think?

BUN 25 7-25
Creatinine 1.4 0.5-1.4
BUN/Creatinine Ratio 18.7 6-25
Albumin 4.7 3.5-4.9
Phosphorus 2.2 2.5-4.5
ALT 58 3-60
AST 40 3-50
GGT 14 3-80
Hematocrit 49.8 38.5-50.0
WBC 3.9 3.8-10.8
Cholesterol 121 <200
LDL 62 <130
HDL 49 >40
Triclycerides 49 <150
PSA 0.7 0.0-4.0

Any reply much appreciated!

Thanks.

You are borderline, which can mean quite a few things. Usually dehydration, urinary obstruction and/or chronic kidney disease. In your case, what we are looking for is signs and symptoms of kidney disease, (particularly if you have been on high-dose or long-term Tren.) Kidney disease can be brought on or exacerbated by HTN-what is your BP? Is your urine cloudy or dark? Urinalysis is of prime importance because it can show hematuria, pyuria, or proteinuria. Get one soon. The best test would be a 24-hour urine collection and then do a Creatinine CLearance. However, a pretty good indicator, your BUN/Cr ratio seems to be in check (increased ratio = dehydration; decreased ratio = liver disease) and bc of this I would not worry too much.

A complete blood count would also be useful bc your screening test is at "high normal". Your elevated RBC count (via HCT) is indicative of AAS use and this needs to be followed bc too many cells decrease fluid viscosity and it can slow down blood supply in your kidney capillaries, and can cause damage over long periods of time.

All in all, this is a "normal" profile on someone on AAS and I would say that your minimal abnormalities are due to BB lifestyle of AAS use and increased protein intake. Creatinine levels may be 10%-30% higher in people on high protein diets. The increase in lean muscle mass may also bump up levels (but usually never over high normal). I commend your healthy practice of watching your blood work and if I were your doctor, I would probably just keep an eye on it and have it repeated in 6 months or so.

Thanks very much for the concise reply. You no doubt are a doctor or very well versed in the medical field. Thanks again.

My BP is 118/70. No discolored urine, although during and at the end of a summer tren cycle(75mg ace ed) (ended Sept. 1st.) my urine was a bit brownish, but that disappeared immediately at cycle end.

I drank about 3 liters of cranberry juice over the last 2 days and took a dyazide tab and all back pain has disappeared. Coincidence?

Moving forward I plan to run a more complete set of bloods next month to monitor any change.

Thanks.

Looks normal for hard training athlete that eats lots of protein. You have to keep that in mind when looking at these tests. If you were sedentary and ate a low protein diet, then I'd be concerned.

i agree with mak here and i also ask whats the water intake like to keep the kidneys flushing constantly, i drink at least 2 gallons a day.........get things checked again in a couple months and see if it changed at all...

Right. Also make sure that you are fasted and have not trained that day. I took a complete blood profile in the afternoon after having eaten 4 of my meals and trained in the morning. According to the tests I should have had kidney failure... :worried:
