A lot of fighters at my gym use them....who's used them? are they effective?

Yes, they are effective for range of motion strength if you know what I mean. Its a great way to do a snatch, for example, without having to learn gymnastics first, and still get the benefit.

CrossFit uses them as well.

I've used them.

High rep front squats will build tremendous endurance and core strength. Your trunk will be sore in place you didn't know existed.

High rep swings are good for endurance too.

Turkish get ups are fun too.

If you have access to them use them :)

watched an asian dude complete a routine with them, i can see how they will increase range of motion and for sure core strength which you could use, but for growing muscle and raw strength?? no..

for strengthening muscles, ligaments and tendons very much it would work..

this guy i was watching was doing the routine with plates..

As with anything, if used as part of a program they will definitely work. Technique is as important as what exercise you do. I'm not an expert but watched a boxer who does use them wear out a BB while trying to teach him how to use them properly. They force you to use different muscles.

bells? lol.

They are an old Russian tool used to generate explosiveness and power. I love them. I imagine fighters might use these over BB olympic lifts because you can work on the generation of speed and power without being restricted to a vertical path (which is rarely applied in martial arts)

Great for tabatas too.

thanks for the info guys.

Do you have links to videos (instructional)or links with info on them....

I wanted to change my bodybuilding routine to be more inclined towards my fighting

In my humble opinion if you have access to them go ahead, but if you don't you can use regular dumbells, for MMA purposes, giant sets with compound exercises, barbell/dumbel/kettle/ complexes, tabatas, hitting a tire with a hammer, strongman implements too, circuits etc are the best to build stamina and endurance, you are a strong mofo already so you should really focus on these, but still keep an eye out for your squats, deads and pressing strength too. It would be a shame if you as strong as you are lose a fight over lack of conditioning issues.

You want the best? youtube Fedor Emelianenko, Randy Couture those guys are fucking relentless conditioning/stamina machines.
