Just got back to lifting after 3 years off.

A few years ago I got badly injured. 5 months ago I cleared by my doctor to lift again. My muscle memory came back fairly quickly, but I'm hitting major plateaus in every area; strength, muscle gains, and recovery.

I'm taking all the supplements I used to take, though I can't get Andro anymore apparently.

Just wondering what you do when you hit 30 years of age and are stuck in a bad rut.

Thanks.

Eat some more calories. Each one will improve.

I'm 5'8'', 200lbs, 15% bodyfat. I eat like a horse, and clean food; chicken breasts, tuna, salmon, brown rice, whole-wheat pasta, plus I drink 3 protein shakes a day and take creatine and flaxseed oil.

The problem is that my strength isn't getting better and I feel more sore than I remember and my recovery is pretty poor.

well your recovery is going to slow down as you age. If you aren't trying to get on some gear then switch up your routine to shock your muscles. If you are more interested in strength, then up the weight and lower those reps. If your diet is on point then changing your work out routine should get you back on track.

I was hoping not to have to gear up, but it'll beat the depression of knowing I just don't have the natural recovery/strength as I did in college. I remember being 22, doing an assload of toxins, and being able to lift like a champ several hours later.

I've been doing a similar workout as I used to:

M-Chest
bench, incline, decline, flies

T-Back
bb rows or deadlifts, seated db rows, tbar rows, pullups

W-Shoulders
bb military, lat raises, front plate lifts, shrugs

TH-Legs
squats, ham curls, leg extensions, calves

F-Arms
bicep-bb curl, hammer curls or preachers, cable curls
tri-skullcrushers, weighted dips, cable pulldowns

I usually do some abs at the end of each workout and I do cardio for 10-15 minutes after lifting.

Hang in there bro,the same thing happens to me when I take time off. It's a bitch to get back into the gym when you take time off I hate going through all that crap. You feel like shit all the time tired weak an everything.Same here I know when I get back into it it's going to be a bitch for sure, but Iam not in my 30's just yet lol.I haven't been in the gym a while myself like a year in a half are so.But when the time comes its going to be hell.An we don't even want to go into starting a deit lol that really sucks lol.But just hang in there your body will get use to it an then you will start getting better.A lot of the time people try to fast to get back into like man I remember when I was benching 350lbs now Iam benching 150lbs don't worry about how much weight you was doing are anything like that take it slow an it will get better.Good luck bro
