Back to the muslim thing. Most (if not all) muslims consider themselves muslim from birth. So, if you tell them you are not a muslim, they think you "denounced Allah" so to speak. Are you currently practicing any religion? Were you raised muslim? Have you since accepted a different faith? Can you say you are just not a practicing muslim? Then, the simple answer to, "are you muslim?" would be "yes" (but you could also say "yes, but I don't practice").

I wasn't raised as a muslim, My parents wouldn't say they're muslim too...

Haven't accepted a different faith, We weren't brought up in a religious upbringing... I have beliefs... But so does everyone....
