I know, thats so true... Don't know why people can't accept peoples beliefs or no beliefs....
well, maybe they can accept it they just don't agree/relate.
for example, if i met a gal and she was a flaming evangelical, i'd be like see ya...not cause i don't respect her beliefs/morals, but because i don't relate in anyway.

No, however i am muslim... and when you say MUSLIM COUNTRY it would be a common question to ask if your muslim? why, most likely to say salaam which would be the 'proper' thing to do. Secondly, the relationship changes when you find out the person is muslim. "Becomes more a brother hood" in the case for males.

Some poeple might not know what Salaam means... So I used the easier term...

It may become a brother hood to those who are muslim...

My very good friend is muslim and he gets the same reaction as my other friend when mentioned that she is muslim and religious...

So it depends on where you are.... Its different in many places... I agree with what you mention about it being a brotherhood.... thats good...

All I'm saying is why should people be treated like that whether they're muslim or not....

Its just unfair to judge someone like that

That happens alot, i mean if your muslim depending on the person your speaking to the assumption is made your the ideal muslim. Personally i dont tell them about my religious habits so their view can't change but they would just consider me oh the brother who works in this department... etc...

perfect description of what I mean....

Thats what happens.... And saying to a muslim that you're not a muslim gets the same reaction.... I'm speaking from experience so I'm not talking about every religious person...

This isn't really about being muslim or not then - this is experienced in every relgion.

I remember kids looking at me like I was from Mars when I said I didn't beleive in god when I was in grade school.

Same type of situation, they were - for the most part - white christians and expected the same from me.

Eh... shake it off. It's their issue, not yours. They can't deal with diversity and individual beliefs and values. The sad thing is - most relgions teach / breed intolerance for others wether they admit to it or not.

Yeah, true....

I remember my friend at school... Who was Kurdish, And he didn't want people to know because he thought people would hate him because of his muslim background.... So he held back from telling people....

people should accept who you are...

If you have a muslim background, but you don't class YOURSELF as a Muslim... Nor does your parents though you're from a Muslim country....

Do you feel bad when someone ask's....

"Oh so you have a Turkish background, So you're Muslim?"

I'm like, No.... I wouldn't say I am, I have beliefs etc, But I'm a strict religious person... My mum does pray.... and she used to fast before she became unwell....

But the reaction I got was... "Oh, Ok"

Is there anything wrong with that?

Merhaba! Most Turkish people I know aren't very religious. And most from other muslim countries understand that. They may not agree with it, but they understand it.

I know some Turks who run a pizza place. Love some soujouk pizza! Super nice guys too. I've met some really hot Turkish girls too! :qt:

isn't muslim almost considered a ethnic group? i know this isn't a perfect fitting category, i realize the difference between arabs and peeps from turkey/iraq/egypt...but similiar to non practicing jews calling themselves jews.
am i correct?
