1.5 weeks in. i used to weigh a little over 240 now i'm at 232. i'm sure most of the 8 lbs is water.

the diet looks like this:

300g protein, 100g carbs on training days/70 on non, 160g fat

the training is a modified 5x5. i'll post today's workout

rack pulls: 275 5x5
bb rows: 135x10, 155x10, 165x10
lat pulldowns: 115x10, 125x10
EZ bar curls: 65x10, 75x10
hammer curls: 30s x 8, 25s x 10

starting kinda light on the weights, so i can add weight every week. some of these were almost to failure ie. the last set of lat pulldowns and the first set of hammer curls

i have this scheduled for 10 total weeks so 8.5 weeks left, if all goes as planned. i'll make it longer if i have to. i SHOULD be at 10-11% in 8.5 weeks, if old bodyfat measurements were correct. like i said, i'll make it longer if i have to

im not going to think about what happens after that. this is what's going to happen so this is all that i'm focusing on.

Remember, the part that makes it "cutting" is the diet. Train hard!!

Glad you started a thread. :)

thanks all

liftbig, i'm cutting because im sick of looking like a piece of shit and i could look awesome at a lower bodyfat%. fat cells dont fire at all or anything so its not like it helps me in lifting. we'll see where this leads

hey man, i know what you mean. i was concerned becuase you said you want to bench 500 next year i think. and i dont think cutting right now is the best idea. i would just try to up your LBM, dont worry about your fat % so much right now, at your age you probably still have some baby fat, and that will change as you get older, 500 doesnt care what you look like, trust me on that one. but i agree that fat cells are inferior to muscle as leverage.

thanks for the insight. i have a bit more than you could call babyfat though.

i needed to back off the heavy lifting anyway because of joint pain so i figured now would be a good time to do this. who knows where it will lead me

back of the heavy training fine...... but going to a bodybuilder routine will do nothing good to help you get stronger.

no you wont become hercules, but you can gain muscle while cutting back, not a lot , and not for long. but if you switch to bodybuilding, then go back to powerlifting, you will fill like a fish out of water........... you will have to relearn a lot of what you have already learned.

jsut my .02 cents.

i hear you. but i feel the 5x5 is decent for strength gains (probably not the best, but its not shitty at all). i dont care for strength anyway for the moment but i know i wont lose any (unless you're talking about bench skill and lockout strength, etc).

i just NEED to see what's under this. i NEED to have biceps and abs. and i think i should, given the joint pain and mental wear as of late

if there's a bodybuilding comp in the near future, i just might want to do it. that way i could at least say i did it and could fairly judge looks vs. strength. i cant get too involved in something w/out checking out my other options, ya know? besides, being in high school, it's alright to be vain, no?

anyway, i think im actually eating more than i was before i started dieting. lol

jeremys while i can't say i agree with you 100%...i will support you 100%

good luck with this but dont forget your roots

do what you gotta do you theres plenty of time to experiment

yeah. 20-25 years before i peak in anything

thanks for the support, t3c

was a little high on the fat today and a little low on the protein. this seems to be the norm. hope i can break this

today - carbs - about 70g, fat - 210g, pro - ~210g

today's workout

bb incline: 135 5x5 the bench was very wobbly and i havent done these much before. will add 5 lbs a week

DB incline: 45s x 12, 50s x 12, again..very wobbly. will get used to it and it will be more steady and the weights will go up

side laterals: 20s x 12, 25s x 10

3 board press: 225x8, 245x5 missed the 6th rep

tricep pushdowns: stack(200) x 6, 160x9

rear delt: 50x15, 75x15

this diet is so fuckin easy to stick to it's unbelievable. got enough fat and carbs so far today. had half a donut in the morning, which i feel bad about, but it was a school thing and i only had half anyway. post workout i had some orange juice and toast w/ jam. will have some KFC in a little bit (will eat only the breasts and cut off the breading on the outside)

i tell ya what, it's nice to have a pump going. havent felt like this in like 2 years lol

exactly 2 weeks in

i had my first carb-up tonight at a sportsman's banquet

oh i got my driver's license today too. PR or something

Whether or not you power lift or bodybuild, I have a lot of respect for anyone who works hard at improving, busts their ass in the gym and keeps a good diet. Keep up the good work, man.

Ahhh... we will make a bodybuilder out of you yet.

So what do you weigh now? Make sure to vary your calories from day-to-day, rather than keeping them constant, and be certain to refeed once a week. This should help keep your metabolism up. That way you will not have to cut calories as low yet. Once they fat loss slows down, reduce your carbs a bit more, and you should continue to shed fat ibs. Congrades on the 8 ibs, and if you just started experimenting with low carbs, not as much of it might be water as you think, especially if your potassium intake is high.

Yes Jeremy's, and if you follow all of BBF's advice, soon you too will be confident enough to post an avatar in your grape-smugglers, and work out in spandex at the gym. (Cause you know the chicks dig that.):D

Seriously though man, good luck with this. I will be watching closely as my gut has been slowly starting to get out of control lately.:D

I am curious to see how your strength levels hold up as your BF% drops.:)

Joker

JOKER, not just that, but he might even post up a picture minus the bananna hamock on the board, like I did, to provide the ladies with something for them to fantasize about.

hahaha

thanks for the advice BBF. how much should i vary my cals?

i tried keto a couple times before so this isnt my first time with low carbs. that also might be why its easy for me

today's workout:

squats: 245 5x5
extensions: 135x12, 145x12
lying leg curls: 130x10, 140x10
calves: 2 sets of 15
abs on decline - highest setting

post workout food: oatmeal w/ brown sugar, banana, 2 turkey burgers

took a look in the mirror after my workout. this shit is actually working. cant wait till i'm done to see what i've accomplished

thanks guys

i'm thinking varying my carbs (120 on training days, 50-70 on non-training days) would be enough variance in total cals over the week?

bump for BBF

I am following something similar right now except that I do not eat that many carbs on non-training days. I also focus 75-80% of my carbs post workout. I vary calorie intake by eating about 600 or so more on training days. The calorie increase is either carbs or protein, my fat intake does not change.

That will work, it should give you enough variance, although you could get away with fewer carbs on non-training days. You could also drop your fat a little lower on non training days, and increase it a little after working out on training das to aid in recovery. A 400-600 calorie varience throughout the week will work well. Just remember that the daily calorie goal you set is your average for the entire week, except for refeed days. Glad to hear that the diet is working for you so far.

I forgot to say I am trying to gain weight right now, not lose it, but I imagine it would work either way I would just have to adjust total calories.

almost 3 weeks in

things are going fairly well. im getting a little impatient though

im not sure what my weight is but i know that i weighed about 240 before i started. i will go lower than 220 (depleted)

i'll post updates sporadically

adding 5 lbs a week on rack pulls, squats, and incline bench

biceps and abs getting biggermy computer died so i'm posting from school. i'm not supposed to be on here. so it'll be at least a few weeks before i can post regularly

yesterday i PRed on 4 boards. did 315 for 5 reps, was pretty easy. i'm not losing strength at all

carb-up today

huge PR on squats today.

i worked up to 345x3 w/ a belt only. thats a 30 lb PR

next week i'm switching back to my old routine

working like what? low reps?

i posted my main exercises lately due to time restrictions

like today after squats i did quads, hams, calves, and abs. 2 sets each

im gaining some fluff muscle (abs, biceps, etc) because i havent trained them for a while

but i've always believed strength gains in the major lifts are mostly due to CNS adaption, not neccessarily muscle gain

ok i think im pretty much done. i get my wisdom teeth taken out on thursday so i wont be able to eat solids for a couple days. plus i'm ready to start benching heavy again

i'm at about 230 or a little under. if i up the protein and eat mostly clean, i can be a solid 242

i'm a lot more comfortable now

Good stuff.

Hope the wisdom teeth don't mess you around too much. You'll get lots of quality sleep from all the painkillers :)

it went well. i got down to 230 so that was a 10 lb loss. had my wisdom teeth removed and then lost 5 more pounds. probably lean mass

but i dont know what im going to do now. i'm kinda fat at 225 yet and i could make 220 pretty comfortably. i'll just eat as much clean food as i can and i'll end up wherever, be it 220 or 242
