Hi everyone. I am completely new here and I really like what I see so I am going to start my journal here. I already have two on other sites but the first one is a waste of time because it is on fitness.com and the second one I have on Oxygen is blocked at work and that is the only place I can do this stuff.

I have several goals and I am laready making great progress towards them but I find that actually posting my diet and workouts online motivates me. I really like reading everyone's journies toward their goals as well. My career goal is to one day be a personal trainer and I want to be the best trainer that I can be. As far as my fitness goals, I would like to drop another 9-10 pounds and maintain 125. I am 5'5" and right now am weighing in at 134-135. I am currently deployed and it is so hard to eat clean out here but I am doing the best that I possibly can with what I have available. I have already lost 9 pounds since I got out here at the end of January and hope to make continuous progress. The final goal is to change my eating habits for the better and prevent myself from eating out of boredom. There isn't too much to do out here so when I am at work I get really tempted but I have started to overcome the need to eat all of the time. I guess that is enough of an intro. I will be posting my workout and diet for the day later.

Hey there :)

Just wanted to say welcome! I'm rubbish and haven't started a log on here (but this is going to change very soon) but well done to you for doing it as it is a fab idea. There are lots of helpful, lovely women on this board and a few nice men over on the other boards.

Anyway yeah, :wavey:

Thanks for the welcome cezza.

By the way, my avatar is not me. She is my inspiration.

Welcome to EF Gurl! :wavey: You've probably came to one of the best little secrets on the web for all types of fitness related issues/matters/questions YOU NAME IT...

"The final goal is to change my eating habits for the better and prevent myself from eating out of boredom." --> Great goal, easy to overcome when you set your mind to it, no matter what the circumstances... best of luck with that :)

Do you have any other ways to measure your progress aside from a scale & a set #? Don't get me wrong, it just can really break a woman sometimes & which I have come to realize is quite unnecessary at times... maybe pics? BF testing, tape measurements, etc? :)

Welcome aboard & good luck to you :rose:

Thanks ladies. I am already liking this place. There is so much info available. I can measure myself and I have been. I don't have the measurements memorized so I am going to measure myself tomorrow morning and let you all know what they are. I wish I had a way to measure my body fat but as of right now I don't.

Welcome to EF! Keep up the good work, sounds like you have made alot of progress so far. And try not to get yourself killed or maimed out there.

Obviously calipers are the best 'portable' way of doing it, but maybe just try pinching yourself :) when you can't pinch anymore you're doing good! I don't really know of any around this sorry, maybe someone else might have a good suggestion. I need to get new calipers, mine melted the other day :(

And this is a good place if you've got questions, most get answered really quickly on this board.

JL, you said you are deployed. IP and I are in Iraq, as well (Anaconda). Where are you?

I am at Al Asad. I haven't even heard of Anaconda before. I guess I don't know as much about Iraq as I thought. It's nice to see other service members on here. It's always a pleasure getting to know people in other branches.

I ordered some calipers a week or two ago and am waiting for them to be shipped out here. Now I just need to figure out how to use them. :rainbow:

Can you list specifically what you are eating?

I know that you are slightly limited in food choices and preparation, but your macronutrient breakdown seems a little off. I also don't know the physical requirements of your day ... but the carbs seem VERY high and the protein VERY low. Also, caloric intake seems quite low.

To cut fat, typically you shoot for 10-12x body weight for your total caloric intake. Also, in general, a good macronutrient breakdown should be around 40%P, 30%C, 30%F.

DG, I usually hit about 1500 calories a day. Starting tomorrow I will post everthing I put in my mouth. I didn't start this journal until the end of the day so I didn't feel like putting in what I had eaten. All I can tell you is that after 8:10 I ate a lot more. This was the first time I have pigged out in awhile so I am not going to dwell on it but start fresh tomorrow. Thanks for all your help. I know I need to get more protein but I just ran out of powder and am waiting on the family to send me out some more. It is nighttime for me so I will talk to you tomorrow for sure.

Jamie Lynn, we are actually here as contractors, supporting y'all. :) Obviously, we can't discuss too much about location on here, but I'll be surprised if you don't hear about us, soon. Ask around about us. ;)

We're, ummm.... the "resort" of Iraq. ;)

Does your DFAC serve chicken breast? Use the comment cards that are available for the main contractor there and ask if they can have some healthy choices, like chicken breasts or fish, at each meal. Keep filling out comment cards once per week! :D Trust me: they pay attention to them.

Hey there! I am new on EF as well and can tell ya that after just a couple weeks its a GREAT place! Good job with the posting so far keep it up!

Thank you thank you thank you. You guys are all so supportive and I am glad that I have found a new happy home for my journal. I really rely on posting everyday because it gives me the motivation to succeed (?sp) in my goals.

This was taken this morning. I really need to whittle away on that middle. I never knew that my back was so muscualr. That made me happy. Hope you all like my farmers tan from being out here. Looks crazy doesn't it?? :)

Hang on I am going to get this pic up.

I don't know how to do it but it is in my profile. I will mess with this later, my coworker is here and I do not want him to see a half naked picture of me.

Your link doesn't work - I think you need to upload it to your gallery here or put it on a picture hosting site like photobucket, or imageshack or something :)

I'm intrigued by your farmer's tan hehe

Ok so I am a little late, but WELCOME to the board!! :wavey:

It isn't the easiest to meet your goals out here, but it CAN be done!! ;) Also, if you can, pick up a Tupperware container from the PX or order one (or heck, I can ship some to you, I have some extras or I can go to our PX and pick one up for you...I think ours has a little more selection then yours :qt: ). Then the days that the DFAC has chicken, load it up!! I had to do that for several months, until they finally started serving it everyday!!

Nelmsjer mentioned that we are at Anaconda...have you heard of Balad?

I have heard of Balad. The only way that I would ever get there though would be a bad thing so I hope I never end up there. I wish I could take tupperware containers in there but we can't take any food out. I have to sneak fruit into my pockets when they aren't looking. Do not as me why because I have no idea why it is like this. Thanks for all your help. It means a lot to have people supporting you in your goals, even if they are complete strangers you will never meet.

WOW - are you serious...you can't take anything out? How do you get food for your snacks inbetween meals? Here the military is allowed to take as much as they want to out of the DFAC - that is craziness!!!!!!

Please let me know if there is anything I can help you with or send you! It is free to go from APO to APO!! ;) Take care and BE SAFE!! :verygood:

Tell me about it, especially since I watch those TCNs throw it all away when we are done eating for the day. It is such a waste but who am I to argue with the powers to be. I steal fruit in my pockets and my Mom has been such a good help. She sends me almonds, natt PB, rice cakes, oatmeal and anything else I ask her for.

You are the one that should be safe. I hear that you are in a much worse place for getting hit. When are supposed to be out of here? Lucky me just got here in January and I have until the next one so I had better reach my goals. What do you guys do out here and how did you decide that you wanted to come out here? I always wondered what type of civillian would want to come over here.

Well Sundays are our days to sleep in and not show up to work until noon. It is really nice and usually my workout buddy/ roommate and I go and do cardio or workout in the mornings. Other than that, we usually do it later at night around 6 or 7.

Diet
9:30-10:00

protein shake - 170

continuing on with this

3:30
rice cake w/ natty PB - 150

diet Coke - 1 (but who cares about 1 pathetic calorie, not me :p )

I need to eat a lot more than this so after my cardio session in like 10 minutes I will come back and eat some tuna and an apple. That sounds delicious to me. Or maybe I will just opt for one of those Myoplex lite bars I have lying around.

cardio
20 min total of HIIT
incline 4 on treadmill,
3 min warmup
~30 sec @ speed 8-9 and then ~40 sec @ speed 4-5
2 min cooldown

For reasons I can't get into, I'm going to politely stay out of what I do here. :) I will only say that me coming here was out of necessity. Lord willing, we are scheduled to head back in early, early July. :D My wife (IP) is the most amazing and blessed treasure I have ever had or experienced, and she loved me so much to risk coming out here. Had I been worried about her safety, I would never have entertained the possibility of her coming. Heck, I'd have my Mom and Dad work out here, if I could.

The bad times were when I first got here (I came much, much earlier than she did). "Mortaritaville", as I'm sure you've heard us called, was a very appropriate name, and we wore our armor daily. Now, all I can say is that I feel safer here than driving in Houston or Dallas traffic. It's home. :)

Well, I am glad that you guys are safe then. I don't know that I would want my parents out here but yes it has gotten much safer. Take care.

This is to my Mom

This is a message for my Mom.

I just wanted to let you all know that I have the best mother in the world and she has made me the woman that I am today. I love her more than any other person in the world.

Tuesday, April 25

Today is going to be a long day. About three times a month I have duty which consists of me sitting at the front desk to the building all day (24 hours). I usually end up pigging out on these days and making myself sick from all the crap I eat but today I actually planned it all out. I am going to eat normal and drink as much water as my body can possibly handle and then for dinner I am going to get some ice cream. I figure as long as I plan a cheat then I can stick to it. I will let you all know how this ends up working out. Wish me luck. :worried:

Measurements

I took measurements this morning so I figured that I might as well share them.

Wt. 134 lbs.
waist~28"
hips~38"
thighs~22 1/2"
biceps~10 1/2"
calves~ 14 1/4"

Only a few more inches to lose of my backside and waist and then it's all about getting as many muscles as I possibly can. :p

Horrors of last night

So I did pretty good eating on schedule all day but when I went back up to my duty post at 8:00 I completely lost it and ate about 3000 calories between 8 and midnight. In fact, I ate so much I ended up getting sick to my stomach and had to run outside to a porta john to throw up (I was looking for that little smiley that pukes but don't have the patience to look for it right now). So needless to say I need to stop doing dumb stuff like that. I still don't know why I do it but I will get it under control.

Forgot to mention the one good thing about yesterday. I managed to drink 9 liters of water so hopefully all the crap I ate will be out of my sytem soon enough.

Do you binge eat out of boredom? Or is it deeper than that?

The good thing is that you notice this behaviour, have the guts to log it for all to see and have committed to get it under control. I admire that.

Oh and welcome! I don't think I said hi when you first joined. We're all at various levels of experience so someone will be able to help you if you need it.

Good luck Jamie

thanks for stopping by mermaid. I think I do it out of boredom initially and then I just keep going. It is almost like I try to see how much I can eat until I get sick. Even while I am doing it I am thinking to myself "why am I doing this, I'm not even hungry??" I just keep eating but then I always stop before midnight because I don't want it to carry over into the next day. I hate the feeling the next day though and I am paying for it dearly right now. I just need to have some more self control and desire to achieve my goals.

Sesapure??

I have been reading up on Sesapure and was thinking about taking some. From what I have read it is a natural fat burner and comes from sesame seed oil. Does anyone think that this would help me in my goals or is it a waste? Thanks.

8 page paper?

I take college classes online out here. It keeps me busy and can only help when I become a "nasty" civillian.

That is great weight on the squats! Are they free weights, and how low? Great job!

Thanks!! You just made my day!

They are free weight but I only go parallel. I really should lower the weight a little and go all the way down.

Just 6 but that was my last set so I know I could probably do much more than that. You and your hubby are so supportive. Thanks!!!

Thanks IP! I am sure you will be surpassing 100 lbs in no time with your dedication.

I have 2 pages done on that paper now and it is due in less than 24 hours. I should be worried but I could really care less. Is that bad?? :p

Well, I already have an A without doing this paper so I could just do a crappy job and still get an A in the class. It is the last assignment so let's see how much effort I put into it tonight.

Videoteleconferencing: Isn't technology wonderful?
My bf is 3 states away. Yahoo messenger, webcam & phone are how we keep in touch everyday.

I admire anyone who can do lunges. I have a bad ear and it causes poor balance so I fall over everytime I try to do lunges or anything that requires good balance. It's quite amusing to onlookers. :FRlol: and yes, people are always asking me if I'm drunk.

I'm thinking about trying them at the dip rack, that would give me something to hang onto as the squat racks are always full.

The videoteleconference was awesome. I got to do it last month too but this time it just felt better. I can't wait until July when I get to take my two weeks and go home for a little while.

I have never heard of someone not being able to do lunges because of a bad ear. That must really stink when people come up and ask if you're drunk. I would just kick 'em in the gonads and laugh :FRlol:

That is really good to hear. Things are going well over here. I get to take my 4 days of R&R next week so I am really excited about that.

Today's workout is going to be some reverse lunges, lat pulldowns, some incline bench, a little bit of DB pressing, some split squats and finish it all off with rows. Hopefully I will have time to follow this up with some HIIT.

I try to run with anybody that runs in the morning so I don't end up just going on the treadmill or the eliptical later that night. I really need to start following your journal IP, sorry that I haven't been. You are such a strong woman, I admire you.

You are like a breath of fresh air IP. Today is definitly going to be a good day. I just tried mixing oatmeal and this new Nectar protein that I got. Bad idea. This protein powder is so sweet it makes me sick. I drank some last night and it was pure nastiness. I guess I will make due with what I have available to me. I cannot wait until my R&R!!!

I guess this could be considered a low carb day for me. Now I just need to stay away from the roommates junk food. Darn those sweet tooth monsters

Today was my scheduled day completely off but I feel super lazy since I haven't done anything since yesterday morning and then there were those twizzlers last night.....

:mexican: This is for my boyfriend and all of his family.

Tomorrow I have my 24 hour duty. Let's see how I hold up this time. I am going to try my hardest to stay within my normal diet but those late night cravings kick my ass around 11.

Haha thanks chica!! She is one of those people that eats like crap but she is really tiny. She wants a 6 pack before she leaves in July and I keep telling her abs are all about diet but she keeps eating ice cream every night at the chow hall and pop tarts like they are going out of style. You would not believe how much crap I get from all the guys about the way I eat. They are always asking if I am on a diet and I get sick of telling them that this is how I eat. Sorry, that was so long but I needed to get that out there because it bothers the piss out of me. How are you doing today by the way?

Oh I can ONLY imagine - some people are CLUELESS!! (not to be mean AT ALL)

I can relate to people making fun of the way you eat. I get it from coworkers, friends and even my FAMILY members make fun of the choices I chose to eat!! It pisses me off as well - one of these days I might just snap on them (which if you knew me personally, it is few and far between), but it makes me MAD!!

I am doing pretty good - just got back from the gym and about to eat me some good ol' lunch in a bit!! :p (They were out of chicken though, so I had to settle for freaking TUNA - yuck!!)

Eww, I hate the tuna in the chow hall, it is so nasty. Why is it so brown???

Lucky for me when I finally get up out of here and move back home to NJ I will have my Mom around and she will be right there by my side eating healthy. :)

:wavey: Morning JL!! How did you do yesterday with your diet?? ;)

Not sure about the tuna, ours looks ok here (a little darker then normal). Though, it has a freaking STRONG taste to it for some reason. :( I ONLY eat it when I have no other option!!

Hey IP. Sorry I was not able to get on yesterday because of my duty but I am back today and will post yesterday's workout. The diet was an A+ on Thursday and will be again today. I hope you can still access the forum through the firewall, that is some BS they are blocking it but I am all too familiar with that crap.

Thursday, May 4

Since today was my 24 hour duty I did not care what I ate. I am paying the price though because I have horrible "bubbles" but other than that I am right back on track.

Diet looks nice...

Two hours of sleep last night. This duty thing blows the big one and I have it 3 or 4 times a month; so pretty much every week. I am tired right now but I am going to go to some meeting and then do my HIIT and go home and sleep.

I am trying to stick with the turkey deli meat they have. I know that it has to be high in sodium but it is a little more tolerable.

Morning IP! Yesterday was good, I did HIIT and it felt like I hadn't done it in forever.

I am trying to get some work done for my current college class (marketing). I just hope I can keep up with the work when I go on R&R. Luckily one of the guys going with me is also taking classes so we will sit there like dorks during the day reading and posting assignments.

They are limiting our Internet like crazy over here too. Starting either today or Monday we will only be able to access .mil and .gov sites between 10 and 6 everyday. I don't know what I will do not being able to get on Fitday and here to watch what I eat.

How is everything in your parts today?

OH wow - that SUCKS!!!!!! Let me know if there is anything or anyway I can help...will you have email?

Things are well in my neck of the woods - fairly quiet today ;)
