going back to the gym for the first time in 2 years. i feel like a giddy high school kid who knows hes gonna get laid. but im also nervous, i dont wanna know how weak i am now. but hey, how else am i gonna get stronger, right? wish me luck...

Good luck, and for your own sake, do not go in and try to be a hero. Take it easy and go light for the first couple of weeks at least. Soreness after a 2 year layoff will be nasty, otherwise.

Well it was what I expected. Horrible. I lost so must strength it isnt even funny. But i still had fun. Tris and chest and horrible stiff and sore today, and i love it. cant wait to go do bi and back tommorow.

You should try to train the body as a whole unit, rather than splittng it up like a typical bodybuilder.

well this is 3 days now of horrible soreness. maybe i overdid a little. i sure hope its gone by tommorow cuz i really wanna get back in the gym. small price to pay though.

Soreness isn't a sign of a workout's efficacy. You should train through soreness, don't let it hold you back from the gym.

only problem is that im so sore my felxibility is down quite a bit, so it would hold me back on some lifts.

If you're sore to the point that your tendons/ligaments are tight as hell, I'd advise some rest. It takes very little to REALLY get sore after a long layoff. In general though, a little soreness is no reason not to train.

Getting back into the gym after time off is always hard. You think that you can stand up to the work load that you were at before your break, and then after the work out, you are in some pain for a week. Its never fun.

yea i did my bicep/shoulder workout 2 days ago now, and my left elbow is fucking killing me. the inner tendon that ataches the bicep to the inner elbow is so sore i can hardly stand it. yet i love it at teh same time. im a sick bastard. tommorow, if my elbow feels better, itll be deads all night. i decided to dedicate one whole day to deads. see how it works out. so my split will be:

day 1
chest/tri/grip

day2
rest

day3
bi/shoulder/abs

day4
rest

day5
deads/deads/and more deads

day6
rest

day7
legs/including calves

day8
rest

im not on a set weekly schedule, so the workouts arent set by mon, tues, wends, and so on. basically every other day rest. im not doing it now, but thats for when i get on track without the severe soreness.

sorry if this doesnt make a whole lot of sense, ive been drinking a little. ill feel like an ass tommorow.

A long layoff is tough. After being off for that long it feels like you never lifted before. Good thing is muscle memory helps bring the gains back pretty quick

Nice bro, how old are you btw? I had the same problems when i started man, my elbows ached for days, but it goes away :P, and like shawn said, gotta love that muscle memory :P

im 20. havent lifted since right before i turned 18. i used to always get the inner elbow soreness after working biceps, but not this bad. this is bad enough to prevent me from lifting since i cant extend my arm all the way without extreme pain. but itll go away, i guess ill just take it easy for the next couple weeks so im not so sore.

oh right on bro, 17 here haha, I feel so young compared to most of the guys in here :P, yeah man if its that bad, take it easy bro.
