Isreali fighting

treap

New member
I heard about a fighting style that uses Isreali military training. Has anyone heard of this or know what it is called. I was recomended by a friend but i do not remember what it was called.

i dont think you can make that statement about any system or art out there..

it is the preson and the training that determines the outcome more so then the art/system

It all depends on levels of training and expertise in an art. For know i will stick to kick boxing. The vidoes seem something out of an unrealistic chinese movie.

I have been doing kRav maga for 8 months now and trust me it is better then any other martial art!

again thats a ridiculous claim..

it depends a lot on other things as well

well first..

how many other styles have you trained in? how many other studios have you been two? how many instructors have you studied under? how many years have you been into martial arts..

btw i do think krav maga is a very very effective combat style but to say it is the best over everything else is pretty naive.

real fighters know that the art is not the only important thing about training.

If it was the most effective art, everyone would do it. Every MMA competition would be all Krav maga people.

but even if that was the case.. then people would need to train in something else besides krav maga to gain an advantage..then if that style dominated.. people would again switch and back and forth and back and forth...until..

people realized JUDO was the key.. j/k

Check out The UFC`s web site and you`ll see that they recommend that if you ever want to get into fighting there krav maga is what you should learn as almost everybody knows that style!WWW.UFC.TV

Yeah I have two close friends (brothers) from Isreal both were in the army (hell everyone has to be in the army there, as it should be in the US)
Anyway one of them was in some elite corp like our Seals. He knew Krav Maga , the beauty of kempo and the stopping power of a .45. I wouldn’t screw with the guy and I had 40lbs and 6’’ on him.

I feel its a very effective art,and I was sad to have to stop after a few months of loving it, but Im looking forward to pancration once I get my shit together and start it.

Ill see if I can dig up some sources, but I do agree its foolish to claim any art superior to others, there are always bad schools etc, for krav all I have to say is people think it is the best because it is really popular right now,BJJ had this light a year or so ago and still kinda does

Its the most effective martial art in the world. By effective I mean you can use it in real life situations and youll be able to floor anyone.

Yeah, I'm sure you'd kick Cro-Cop or Silva's ass.

Very few present day Spec Ops guys have ever used hand to hand in combat! If we go back to the days in the jungle sure it happened but this is today, and if your using your hands you're fucked.... That being said if there is one lesson to learn from UFC, Pride, etc. it's that no one art is better, but the well rounded fighter will prevail. Take what you can from the art and have an open mind....

thats awesome Nir is your instructor,I met him at my college and took his edged weapons course, I wish I was closer to thornhill to take his course

Im in brantford,I was taking Krav at woods in ancaster but the drive was a pain . and yes Nir is a very impressive guy with alot of knowledge

I met a chick instructor for the Isr. military. I witnessed her spar some guys, mostly grapplers, and do very well

what are the preferred 'finishing'/submission moves in krav maga..

like do they prefer to choke rather than armbar.. do they prefer striking on the ground?

or what do YOU prefer to use..

thanks

I wouldnt really say there is anything favoured over the other in krav,it depends on the situation and how the fight it going. personally I prefer a choke, but I also bounce and know how effective that is,so Im biased

cool thanks oak!

in street situations i prefer chokes as well.. no perm damage and if done right it shows the 'law' your were in control and did not use excessive force.. like armbars might be considered or knees/elbows to the head..

in sport situations i do prefer armbars slightly unless they give up there back then im happy to just choke them out

Krav is very effective because it's very practical and open to real life situations. With Krav it's not for sport which is why there are no competitions for it. You can use it however in MMA competitions although again you can't use it to full force. Rear elbows aren't allowed in most MMA competitions as well as groin, and throat strikes and eye gauges which are all taught in Krav Maga. We also train with how to disarm guns, knives, sticks in all types of situations as well like kneeling down with your arms behind your head if your attacker instructed you to as well as being in a car and someone comes to attack you with a gun. It's very all around. I've been doing it for about 2 years now and I've still only scratched the surface of it.

On another note I am also studying BJJ now as well and want to get into competitions. What I noticed is that Krav's ground game is similar to BJJ(though not as extensive - which again I wouldn't fully know since I just started BJJ last night) which makes sense since Krav takes everything that is practical and puts it to good use. Even in there main headquarters for the US in LA they have BJJ classes.

as an ex army person myself, all of us the Israelis are going to the army for 3 years,
I was in a bit better unit than him and we used hand to hand combat very often, most of us came with a background of martial arts but in any way you get classes of krav maga,
I will say that if the techer know what he is doing it could be a very good style of self defance,
but in this day and age if you want to be a good fighter you need to take BJJ and kick boxing as well in order to be a more rounded fighter,
you can't trust only one thing even if it's good as krav maga, don't forget we had guns as well in the army so if hand to hand failed we could use our guns.

First i would hafta agree with Tom on the naive part of the martial art. I do feel it is a good effective art but like in everything else it all comes down to an individual 's iron conditioning outside of the dojo. The truth is no martial will help u unless u build your life upon the techniques and use them. A mere suggestion to a better fighting art from Israel[ just my opinion] is hagnah although my spelling is probably off but will post website later.remember cry in practice smile in the battlefield ALRATOS PEEPS
