I am so surprised that no-one has picked up on the parallels with the oh-so-publicised events in Tiananmen square not so long ago. Of course that was "them" , this is "us".

The simple fact is that the Israelis are pretty much comitting every single human rights violation to out and out murder on a daily basis in Gaza and the West Bank. (My sources on this are good and close to the area). They are in the habit of bulldozing houses with people inside them on a daily basis. This woman was trying to prevent more murders of innocent civilians.

And yes, it's sad that she is dead. It's sad that she gave her life for something that won't make much difference in the scheme of things. On the subject of "human shields" - organisations have been sending westerners over to Palestine for a while now, as generally, the Israelis are slightly less wankers to the Palestinians when there are westerners around. They also do things like help harvest olives - the Palestinians aren't allowed near olive groves that are close to Israeli housing, because of the danger of a suicide bombing, whereas they reckon the westerners aren't particularly partial to blowing themselves up, and therefore less of a risk. She might have been there for a more mundane reason than standing in front of a bulldozer.

This is a new twist - and the Israelis think that with all the fuss about Iraq no-one will notice. This was a big FUCK YOU from the Israelis to EVERY western country that has expressed concern over their human rights record. And I think that for GWB to not kick up a stink about the death of a US citizen in such a gross manner is criminal. But of course, she probably didn't vote republican, so she doesn't count, right?

Secondly, her political motivations do not change her legal status as an American citizen. So, when I say, "I believe the IDF may have purposely killed this woman, an American citizen." Then I am not mistaken, in terms of the issue of her citizenship.

But you are completely unfounded in even suggesting that she was "murdered" (i.e. purposely killed) and thefact that she was American is, at best, irrelevant. She was neither identified nor acting as an American.

You do, of course, realize that a significant number of Israeli's are US citizens and many (the most publicized was, I believe, Leon Klinghoffer... Achille Lauro) have been killed by Palestinians. In your opinion, have they "murdered" Americans and does this now make them "bad," because it sounds to me that some of the ignoramuses on this board would have you believe that because the IDF killed an "American citizen" (never mind that she was fighting for the Palestinians AND against the US) that is all the justification they need for calling them murderers.

The bulldozer operator was not operating in a planned condo development. This was not about a protestor in the US. You acn be an American citizen around teh world, but your rights stop as you leave US borders.

The area where she died was clearly a war zone. The Israeli policy of demolishing homes is done is response to teror attacks. Does Israel always get the right people? I don't know. I'd bet they've killed innocents. Irrelevant for this post, as it happens on both sides.

The point is, the bulldozer operator is an Israeli soldier under orders to destroy this property. There are tanks and armored vehicles supporting the dozer. It is a fucking war zone.

When US forces go into Iraq, do you think they were going to stop for human shields? The Iraqi soldiers were practically human shields last time, and the US tanks ran them over. That is how you fight a war, and the Israelis and Palestinains are fighting a war.

Whether either side is right or correct or whatever is not the point . This is a war zone and wars are fought to win, not to get good PR. Both sides are trying to win.
