I know that is a photoshop but........

seriously when will it stop ? what happened to the symmetry like the bodybuilders of old ?

I say Arnold and Zane over anyone of these freaks like coleman or cutler

what do you guys think ?

i'm not really into bodybuilding trivia... but call ronnie a freak or whatever - he didn't get that way by JUST juicing his liver out. the guy is still one of the strongest (if not the strongest) bodybuilders. arnie on the other hand may look great, but lifted pussy weights compared to coleman. yea, sure you can talk all about symmetry and aesthetics, but bodybuilding is also about being big, or else 150 lb male models would be winning olympias.
anyway, most of the guys who frequent this forum are more interested in weightlifting, so this is probably the wrong place to be starting a discussion about bodybuilding.

Shadow is quite correct in his analysis of Ronnie....most feel he could challenge all pling recoreds if he were to foucs on just that sport.

Everyone has see him pull 800+, squat the same in contest shape.

I saw a vid and tried to link it - he was doing front squats with 405.

The past look will never return.

Why??

Its not the Weider's etc who "run" the IFBB.....its the fans, we are to blame. We wish to see freaks

I'm not trying to start some kind of debate here, but at the weight Ronnie is at, he would have to Pull more than 971 (current world record held by Andy Bolton) Squat over 1212 (world record held by Jeff Lewis) and bench over 1008 (world record held by Scot Mendelson)

you want to talk about how we have "all seen Ronnie's deadlift video." We have all also seen in the same video that Ronnie is using straps so that he can hold on to the bar. He did it for 2 reps (if my memory serves me correctly). the guy that i train with in Seattle (if you saw the deadlift video that I just posted, he's the guy in the back ground) weighs 242, has pulled 825 for a triple (no straps) and maxed out at 875, and done the same with his squat. I have also seen him front squat 600. and this is a guy who weighs about 60lbs less than ronnie.

here are some links to the "RONNIE LIFTS"
http://www.irongame.com/videos/RonnieColeman.800lbDL.GymLift.2reps.mpg

to see the squat video you will have to go to irongame.com, into the video section, and then scroll down to ronnie. the list is organized by first name. BTW, to eliminate the arguement, ronnie is suited in the squat video. the squat video is of him doing 800x2. after you look at the Ronnie video, look at the Chuck Vogelphol videos. You will see him squat 1000 at a weight of 220.

you can say that "if ronnie trained as a PLer then...." to that I say this. Powerlifting is not the over-glorified sport that BBing is. Winners of meets or contest seldomly win a cash prize, and very few PLers have sponsors that pay them money, at best they get free PL gear. In BBing, the winner of the Mr. O win's hundreds of thousands of dollars in prizes, and equally the same in sponsors. take away all the money, and Ronnie wouldn't be able to afford the $40k+ that he speands of steroids and growth hormone each year. instead, give ronnie a few thousand dollars to spend on juice per year, and see how strong he is then.

well put, good post.

hey SS, I've read that Arnie lifted some impressive weights when he was building his mass, the 50 set pumping stuff most people associate with arhnuld wasn't what built that mass.. it was more like his contest prep training. I think he benched 500 and squatted the same with a 700lb deadlift while training with reg park and other old timers who put the emphasis on strength.

Could be wrong tho, but he trained with Franco who also lifted a lot.

Ronnie is a strong son of a bitch, no doubt.. but so are most of the other big rugged guys, something the lil' weiners on the AAS forum talking about their 225 benches and how you don't have to lift big to get big don't realize.

ALL THOSE POINTS ARE TRUE - HOWEVER - YOU HAVE A GUY PULLING 800 FOR REPS....AND I HAVE SEEN HIM FRONT SQUAT 405 PAST PARALLEL FOR 13 REPS....ALL WITHOUT TRAINING IN THE LOWER REP RANGES...AND AT A RIDICULOUSLY LOW BOFT FAT PERCENTAGE WHICH WE ALL KNOW DRASTICALLY REDUCES INTRA-MUSCULAR LEVERAGE.

THE GUYS YOU MENTIONED TRAIN SPECIFICALLY FOR STRENGTH...RONNIE DOES NOT. THERE IS A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TRAINING FOR STRENGTH VERSUS HIGHER REPS, AS RONNIE OBVIOUSLY DOES.

You think that the top strongmen and plers don't shoot 10 grams of test etc per week??

I hope that is a joke.

This is not about bbing vs. pling....you can think bbing is "overglorified" or whatever adjective/adverb you wish to use.

Who cares what anyones "opinions" are about bbing or pling for that matter??

Remember - Ronnie tested natural at every pling and bbing event he entered until around 1992-93. He was pulling 800 at a competition bbing weight of 240ish THEN.

There will be tons of folks who doubt he was natty then - that's fine. You can look at the pics then versus 3-4 years later see what a HUGE difference there was.

I think he was 19 in this photo:

http://www.bigroncoleman.com/media/Begin03_LG.jpg

As a teenager - he was bigger than most of us can get after years of training.

Ronnie is also in his early 40's.

^^^Freaking insane.

imo - You dont put on 80 pounds of lean body mass in your 30's and 40's without being really close to natural to begin with - which gets me back to his strength - dont think that it is simply because of gear usage.

I think Ronnie is the best bodybuilder in the world, because thats where 110% of his focus and energy goes. Sure, it's fun to play 'what if?' but these things always incite a war sooner or later. Ronnie is a strong guy, no doubt about it, there are a lot of stronger guys out there than him in powerlifting, strongman, weightlifting, throwing etc, but it is comparing apples to oranges, Ronnie trains to be the best bodybuilder in the world, and thats exactly what he is, whether all BB fans like his look or not. The guy is certainly very strong, but he isn't the strongest man on the planet and there is no use saying he 'could be' because thats not what he trains for now and its probably not what he'll ever train for......It's like saying Mariusz Pudzianowski COULD win the Olympia if he trained for it.....maybe he could, maybe he couldn't, it doesn't matter because thats not what he pours all of his efforts into.

Ronnie reps 500 for 5 on bench with no suit and doesnt even train for max lifts. Hits 800 for a double in what like a single ply. Powerlifters i see anymore are just tubs who rely to much on suits. Bill Kazmier laughs at them.

Yea... suits dont help that much....scott mendelson couldnt even touch 1000 to his chest. Why dont people want to see how strong they are anymore? They rely to much on technology.
