is this over training for arms days?

Doing the 5x5 currently with
bb curls 5x5
preacher 2x10
incline db curls 2x10

if i added
forearm curls
hammer curls
for forearms would that be overworking anything? Also any advice on improving the current routine would be appreciated.

Nah, that'd be okay. You may want to substituse the hammer curls for one of the 2x8-10 exercises though. If you feel burnt out, try to adapt to it. If not, drop one exercise.

if youre getting stronger and bigger, youre not over training at all.

the only way to find out is to test it out

Good god people.. a curl is a curl! Just do 5x5 standing barbell and that's all you need. Many of the biggest powerlifters have HUGE bi's and barely ever work them in isolation, mostly just rows etc.

because that's how the 5x5 program works

...Yeah *nods*, pretty much ;) And that's okay, since it's worked well for a sizable no. of trainers.

However...

I wouldn't necessarily do 2 more curl variations just because it's called for on a piece of paper (or computer screen ;) ). I'd do them if it was ideal for my body; and in my experience, there are some for whom 9 work sets would be overkill. Biceps are, after all, a small muscle group--one which gets hit very hard with back movements as is.

The only way to determine if it's overtraining or not's to try it, though :) Even if it is too much after a few weeks, awnyerneas could drop everything 'cept the 5x5 BB curl and take it from there.

Barbell curl 5x5
Incline db curls 2x8-10
Reverse curls 2x8-10
Total 9 set and bicepts are done. This coupled with Deadlifts squats, rows, and you will be all set

I agree. Gotta listen to the body....some people may even require more (not me!)

Starting this week I'm cutting out all direct arm work except for 5 sets a week. Probably just do barbell curls and CG bench. I except this to work rather well.

That's what I'm hitting at, Guld. If someone is already doing 5 sets of 5 reps of a solid, productive bicep excercise, slightly varying the angle or switching to DB's for 2 more higher-rep, LOWER-WEIGHT sets is pointless.
