Is there any way this can be true?

If it is true, why aren't people freaking out?

23,000 refunds to the same address? There's no way they didn't know something was messed up.

Nobodys freaking out because its not tangible to anyone. $46M in taxpayer money is a miniscule amount compared to the total IRS take each year. If someone said the IRS overrefunded $46M spread out over 25000 people who gives a shit. But since its illegals and all to the same address it makes a little news (Fox only, wont hear it anywhere else).
If you want to see outrage, make taxpayers have to cut a check to the IRS each april 15, instead of deducted from each paycheck throughout the year. Then you will get some fucking pissed off people and shit will change.

Why should they worry about that kind of carelessness? No problem; there's plenty more $ where that came from, and the "evil rich" people will keep paying & paying it, so it's perfectly OK if they issue refunds all over the place to everyone and dogs & cats too. And of course it's also fine that they give $zillion grants to weird-os who want to do a study to prove that lemon seeds have a sharper top on them if the moon is full on the 9th of the month, etc.

I like that idea,,.. here's another one.. your employer is required to send all of your paycheck to the IRS until which time your taxes for the year are paid..

people don't freak out unless something directly affects them, they are sheep. things won't change in this country until the standard of living is drastically changed, and by then it will probably be too late.

not having read the article, i find it hard to swallow. it's not hard to program a few sanity checks into the software.

22,000 i can understand, but almost 24,000? that's just crazy.

LOL @ evil rich people.
What does "rich people" have to do with this discussion.
This may be a miscue by the IRS, not by President Obama who wants to "share the wealth" or whatever he called it.

I'm surprised this address didn't get audited. I thought that was the reason it takes months to get returns. Personally I think this is FOX News talking and not the facts

It was over $4 Billion that was paid to illegals in tax refunds back in 2010. I'm sure that number has at least doubled since then. It's a scam to claim 8, 10, 12, etc. kids living with one filer at the same address, when in reality, there are probably no kids living there, and they have never lived there because they are all still living in Mexico.

That's why I asked if there's any way this can be true -- it was an honest question.

We've got an either/or situation here.

1) Fox News has blown-up a story that isn't true or is misleading. If that's the case, someone should debunk it.

or...

2) It's evidence that the other news outlets filter their content pretty harshly. How could you overlook 22,000+ refunds to the same address? That's page one top of fold stuff.

So which one is it? Are there any other articles out there?

I don't think it sounds too far fetched. I'd estimate about 850 people live in the 2 bedroom house next to mine (*judging from the amount of Rangers, F-150's and Tacoma's parked in the lot with landscaping tools in the beds)

not having read the article, i find it hard to swallow. it's not hard to program a few sanity checks into the software.

H&R Block would get flagged every year though...when people do the "rapid refund" thing, their actual refund goes directly to H&R Block.

you can't do that without real SSN's for each dependent, though...that's a slam dunk...system picks that stuff up automatically...they couldn't use stolen duplicate SSN's either...that's an auto-flag as well...you'd get a notice and no refund.

I'm sure they get the legit SSN's then. Because they are doing just that.

if it's true it was done intentionally. An inside job. Somebody did something to the software to make it look like not the same address. A few people probably scammed their way to 46m.

Why not?? this Gov't is so stupid and fucked up I would not put it passed them.

Past, not passed.

Here's the treasury report straight off the .gov website that discusses the 23,000 refunds sent to the same address:

http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/auditreports/2012reports/201242081fr.pdf

And snopes confirms it as well. snopes.com: Thousands of Tax Refunds Sent to the Same Addresses

1) Fox News got it right.

2) We should be asking ourselves why no one else is reporting it.

Because the media loves obama, who is in charge of the irs currently, and the media does not want obama or the irs to catch anymore hell than they are already getting over everything else. They have have feelings you know!

  • Magdalena and Jamal Akhter, who run a convenience store, allowed customers using Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) debit cards to choose the “cash-back” option when buying items—something that’s not allowed under the program’s rules. The two then pocketed half the cash and paid the SNAP beneficiary the rest.
  • A similar scheme was uncovered in Tampa that also involved a convenience store owner who reportedly pocketed $735,886 in SNAP benefits 2010 through 2012.

At this point , I'm not surprised what this organization does. It's been talked about alot on the news , the excessive waste and spending, but yet the abusive ways people have been investigated. At first I thought this was just FOX bashing them due to how tea party people were treated. Now they've admitted to doing this to progressive groups as well. I knew this , i just wanted the admission

That admission is part of an interesting defense.

Let's say you catch someone who genuinely hates and discriminates against African Americans. Then you catch them dead to rights.

So if that person points to a single white person they've discriminated against as well, would that mean they aren't racist since they discriminate against all races of people, not just African Americans?

Yes , it's an interesting question how one would categorize the leadership (or lack there of) in the IRS and how they handle political groups. The only conclusion I've come to is that this is simply anti-government suppression.

We know the police and government action that was placed on Occupy Wall Street. I think those fake terrorism charges with those Molotov cocktails was the breaking point for them.

At this point, Anyone who doesn't like government actions which would include people on the far left or the far right , would be scrutinized by the IRS and other administration groups. IMHO those groups probably have the NSA , FBI, CIA also on them... The IRS is the only administration group really being scrutinized by Congress. I guarantee there's phone taps and email taps on both tea party and progressive groups

I do agree that the emphasis was on suppressing anti-government groups.

the more I read about these political non profits the more I'm completely onboard with what the IRS was doing. My only issue before was whether they were singling out one party. Now it appears they may have been going after all these fgts. These weren't legit anti govt groups..these were people funneling money to the DNC/RNC in ways that absolutely undermine our democratic system. It was just a way for corporations to affect political outcomes without putting their brand on the line publically.
