Is there a certain type of cardio that is better for the heart than others?

psychedout

Obviously, 60mins on a treadmill, or 20 mins of sprints with both be good for your heart.

But is one better than the other?

Depends on who you talk to. Ken Hatfield wrote an article years ago and compared the heart of an elite distance runner to his own. The synopsis was that his heart, even though his aerobic capacity wasn't as high as the runners, was just as healthy. So i guess it depends on what you consider as "better for the heart".

I would say skipping rope!

A cardiologist told me walking long distances or a light few mile jog does wonders a few times a week and also switching it up and riding a bike and using a row machine a few days also. Who knows. Something I need to research more now since the heart attack.

I have heard from a few diff. docs that the best way to condition the heart, keep it healthy and to get max. output from it was to switch up the pace. An example would be to walk 1/4 of a mile then sprint 100 yards. then walk 1/4 a mile then jog 1/2 a mile. I am not sure why this is better maybe it has to do with the same principles of weight training. You gotta switch it up to keep growing. The heart is a muscle so it makes sense to me. I hear ya on the skipping rope thing psychedout. I only went 10 min. and I am cramping 3 days later.

believe me

you need 30-40 minutes 2-4 times a week!

2 times if you hit legs twice a week like me

or 3-4 if you do legs once

but MOST IMPORTANT

RUN OUTSIDE@!
