Is the Ford Focus a good vehicle?

I love my Mazda, but it seems I remember that the Ford Focus got a high rating and I would never normally buy an American made car.

its one of the better cars in its class ,you will get alot of people jumping in bashing north american autos but any car will last if you look after it

no both the Mazda and the focus are crap..both made by ford and both piles of shit..my friend got a focus and t months later nothing but trouble at 5000 miles.lol big peaces of shit

The Focus has been the subject of tens if not hundreds of factory recalls, and it's an old design dating back to 2000. It is not competitive with other cars in that size and price class.

There's nothing wrong with a Mazda, Need2 is full of crap on that one. The Mazda 3 is their compact model, and it is an excellent little car with many happy owners. If your Protege has served you well, then a Mazda 3 would be a good replacement for it.

Mazda has been part of the Ford empire for a couple of decades.

Ford Focus is just a step above Ford Escort...they are mostly sold in Europe..in US they can barely make headway....they are indeed troublesome..

Well thanks guys. Won't even consider the Focus then. Probably get another Mazda or a Honda Civic.

In Europe the Focus was the replacement for the Escort. It's a step above the Fiesta, and two steps above the Ka.

European Foci are better than American ones. They got an all-new model last year based on the Mazda 3 / Volvo S40 platform. For some reason Ford decided not to bring the new Focus to America, instead they took the old Focus and gave it a facelift for 2008. Old wine in a new bottle. It's an eight year old car. Huge mistake. Even the crappy Chevy Cobalt is better now. Before, Ford could say "well at least the Focus is better than a fucking Cavalier".

most of the FOcus in Europe have manual transmision....it is a better car than the one with auto transmision...Focus, Cavalier,Escort and Kia are the the scourge of the automobiles///

I won't buy another American car, but my 2000 Focus ZX3 has served my 6'6" 310lb body well for 65,000 miles. My beef is with American dealerships and their shitty service personal.
I think my next vehicle will be a Toyota.

All car dealerships suck, it doesn't matter what brand they sell. Besides, you'll often find that half the dealerships on The Miracle Mile are owned by the same people anyway. In my town for example there's North Point Ford, North Point BMW/Volvo, North Point Nissan, North Point Mazda, North Point Volkswagen, North Point Lincoln-Mercury, North Point Toyota, North Point Scion; Landers Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep, Landers Chevrolet, Landers Hummer, Landers Ford, Landers Lincoln-Mercury, and Landers also has Toyota, Honda, and Acura delerships in another town in the northwest corner of the state.

So you think you're going to get better treatment at the Toyota dealership than the Ford dealership if they're both part of the same organization?
