Tanning beds are healthier than the sun? LOL what kinda crack are you smoking. How convenient you own tanning stores.

Listen.. tanning beds are horrible. Plain and simple. Noone with a lick of common sense will tell you otherwise. In a tanning bed, you are being exposed to high degrees of UV radiation. With the sun, it's not as high dosage (hence the reason it takes hours instead of minutes to tan). Any radiation in such a high dose is not good.

Next thing you know you will being telling us high degree of XRays are good for you too.. howwa bout gamma radiation??

The only thing good from the sun is vitamin A. But it's not the UV radiation you want.

Hell if it wasn't for the OZONE layer, life wouldn't even exist. OZONE blocks a crapload of UV rays... UV rays fry DNA.. and btw that's what causes you took look darker.. fried cells from the UV radiation.

Awww... I feel bad for ign'ant people.

UVA and UVB can ONLY penetrate the dermis and epidermis. Tose are only two of the many layers in the skin.. so no, it can't fry you.
And it's not Vitamin A... it's Vitamin D.

Gamma radiation.... UV rays..... Two different things.

Read the Sun Advantage. Those are my sources. You can also ask a few dermatologists.
I suggest you check it before you wreck it. ;)

Tanning is your body's natural protection against sunburn - it is what your body is designed to do. Many have referred to this process as "damage" to your skin, but calling a tan "damage" is a dangerous oversimplification. Here is why:

Calling a tan damage to your skin is like calling exercise damage to your muscles. Consider, when one exercises you are actually tearing tiny muscle fibers in your body. On the surface, examined at the micro-level, that could be called "damage." But that damage on the micro-level is your body's natural way on the macro-level of building stronger muscle tissue. So to call exercise "damaging" to muscles would be terribly deceiving. The same can be said of sun exposure: Your body is designed to repair any damage to the skin caused by ultraviolet light exposure. Developing a tan is its natural way to protect against the dangers of sunburn and further exposure.

Saying that any ultraviolet light exposure causes skin damage is a dangerous oversimplification. It would be like saying that since water causes drowning, humans should avoid all water. Yes, water causes drowning, but our bodies also need water; we would die without it. Similarly, we need ultraviolet light exposure; we would die without it. It is the professional indoor tanning industry's position that sunburn prevention is a more effective message than total abstinence, which ultimately encourages abuse. It is a responsible, honest approach to the issue.

star gazer does it matter what bed you use at the tanning salon and can I use just any lotion or do I have to get a certain one to prevent premature aging? And how much is over kill?

Your tanning expert should be informed as to the best tanning exposure time. Remeber not to go the full time. It's just like taking gear for the first time. A few minutes will be like going a long time since your bod is not used to that type of exposure.

The type of beds:
Doesn't matter what type. The difference between beds are the intensity and amenities. Remember to change it up. Just like your muscles constantly condition to the same workout routine, you have to change it up. Same thing with beds.

Lotions:
I like California Tan the best. They actually copy the tanning process (with a step one and two lotion) and not only do they help speed up the tanning process, they help with protecting your skin from dehydration, premature aging, sunspots, etc. Compare the ingredients from Designer Tan, you'll notice California Tan is more highly advanced. The prices range from $30-99

tell that to a 50 year old dying of skin cancer.

I tanned a lot and now get basal cells where I burned.
These cells are removed through freezing or surgery.
Freezing is great ... new skin comes in 7-10 days.
Surgery leaves a scar. All mine is done by a plastic surgeon.
The scars are like a line, not railroad tracks.

I always had oily fair skin and now have few wrinkles.

The killer skin cancer begin as basals.

What to do? Don't burn if in the sun. Don't use tanning beds or booths.
Get a tan usung staining products plus some sun.

hell yea, you would have to be a moron to think that sitting in a bed for 8 minutes and getting a tan is worse for you than sitting in the sun for an hour or more for the same or less tan.

I've been told that orbit beds are much, much less harmful than the old-fashioned wolff beds. I wonder if there's any truth to that statement.

Haha believe whatever you want. All is required is common sense and to look at people who've been using those things for years. Any radiation in such a high intensity dose is bad news. You don't have to be a genius to figure it out.

I'm not jumping into an oven either.. or a microwave for that matter ;)
